Just for the records, The Economist is 50% owned by Exor, the holding company of the Agnelli-Elkann family, a family with deep ties with the State of Israel. Have a nice day.

Its a crazy level of ignorance by such an established new outlet to say Fatah was able to operate freely in the West Bank. Do you even know what was in the Oslo accords?

The omission of many historical facts make this video a craft.

The Economist is great for so many topics except geopolitics where it's a slightly manicured neocon mouthpiece.

It's almost as if Israel/Netanyahu don't actually want peace...

The guy said Arafat died, like he wasn’t assassinated by Israel. All I needed to hear, no I can move on.

In several polls carried out by Palestinian organisations in the West Bank and Gaza, about 80% of the respondents replied that they will not accept a two state solution and that the Jews must be driven out of the entire area. These polls took place both well before and after 7 Oct. Naming one leader or another will not change that. Peace cannot come until both sides recognise the right of the other to live in peace and it is now clear this is not going to happen in this generation.

If Hamas wants this guy back online he is most likely not a solution for the conflict.

Barghouti cannot end the conflict because the Israeli state does not want it ended. Since they have almost limitless support to keep extending it, they will keep extending it.

I don't think the a 2 state solution is possible post 10/7.

If anyone thinks the 'international community' can impose it is vastly over estimating the power of this community - - so if the Palestinians want a state, they will have to convince the Israelis. . . and that is basically impossible for this and the next generation.

The last real chance was in 2000, and if Gaza became a peaceful and prosperous place post 2015 then maybe there would be a path. . . but that chance was squandered.

If the US was honest and fair, no need to look for anybody to mediate Israel and Palestine. Unfortunately USA playing one sided game.

Short answer. No. It’s not because of his quality. It’s because other side doesn’t want to recognize stats of Palestine.

So how would his release change things?

What an irresponsible article-he is a mass murderer responsible for tens of suicide bombings of civilians that indescriminately killed Arabs, Jews, and tourists in Tel Aviv. That's not something you can just omit. Disgraceful article-How can The Economist put this out?
