I used a adjustable pipe wrench around the metal base to remove and to fit again. i fear i would of smashed the windscreen otherwise.

Hey how's it going. I need help. My rear view mirror came off today in the morning. The whole thing came out, and now the little tan is stuck inside the Murrow. The other half is no longer on the window.
What can I do?

Next question is how do you lock it down so that it doesn't flop around side-to-side?

Hope you can help...mirror completely snapped of and left with just the circular pad and old glue on windscreen. Is this repairable? Would I be able to get a new bracket to stick onto windscreen so I can reattach mirror. Have exact same type as in the video..Golf mk4. Thanks.

i found this after i broke my windshield trying to install a new rearview mirror onto the ball socket instead of doing this... FML
