Rendering MASSIVE VFX Projects on the M1 MAX! - Resolve + After Effects

In this video, we are taking a look at the latest M1 Max, M1 Pro and M1 chips from Apple and compare them to an i9 10940x / RTX2080Ti desktop workstation! We will compare the performance of the Macbook Pro in video editing tasks both on Adobe After Effects and Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve.

Here are the complete specs of the setups I compared:

- Macbook Pro 16" - M1 Pro - 10 cores CPU - 16 cores GPU - 512GB SSD - 16GB RAM
- Macbook Pro 16" - M1 Max - 10 cores CPU - 31 cores GPU - 2TB SSD - 32GB RAM
- Windows 10 64Bit Workstation - i9 10940X - EVGA RTX2080Ti - 64GB RAM - 1TB SSD

- MacOS Monterey 12.0.1

Thanks everyone for your kind words and support! A few comments I will update over time : 
- For the Resolve project, I rendered a 4K H264 export and the content was a mix of Blackmagic Raw 4K and 4.6K files. 
- Feedback after 4 months : almost completely switched !! The M1 Max is my go to laptop for Resolve, has been doing plenty of renders so fast with no stability issues. Including a 2 hours 8 cam multicam project with 6x UHD Braw Footage and 2x 6K Braw Footage. With lots of noise reduction /sharpening and color correction, the rendering took consistently about 1h30 minutes in h264 UHD.
- Feedback after 6 months : After Effects SUCKS!! In real world situations it seems to be incredibly slow even for simple things. It was the case in the M1 AE Beta, now also here in the Public release. Resolve still lighting fast.

The fact is that this laptop is so powerful and efficient that it has to be compared to desktop PC's...that's incredible. The efficiency is wild.

Outstanding information, is a gross understatement of the value of your post. Nothing beats seeing real projects, with the real number of layers that we often get to, and that until some programs are better optimized some gains are yet to be optimized.

I understand why some youtubers only use small datasets for ease of repeatability among several machines, but I much prefer seeing tests like yours with real layers (and you know what they are doing), and photographers that show processing thousands of images instead of just a few, because thousands is real world multi day event work.

To me it looks like the Max will let me get done sooner, which might mean getting to sleep the same day of the shoot instead of the early morning of the next.

I do not do as complicated ae projects but certainly not just 4k clips stacked on top of each other to check playbacks only.
