Your life intersected with people like John Gotti? I knew John well. I liked John. Socially, he was great. You know, at drinks room, we would go to Elaine's ad places like that. It was a lot of fun.
He was very difficult in business 'cause he could never lose an argument. He always had a win, so it was tough to deal with. But I liked John, and you know, I have a certain amount of respect for guys that stood up until the end.
But when I was proposed into that life, and the first time I sat down with my boss at the time, he said to me, "Michael, here's the deal." From now on, you're on call for us 24 hours a day, seven days a week." He said, "If your mother is sick and dying and you're at her bedside, we call you to service. You leave your mother and you come and serve us. From now on, we're number one in your life, before anything and everything." So if you're agreeing to leave your family because you took an oath, it's evil. It's evil, you know? Yeah, okay, you're a stand up guy, but look what you did to your family.
