Mr. Schmidt's costume store is bankrupt because he spends his time on Rube Goldberg-style inventions. The creditors send a young manager who falls for Schmidt's niece Louise, but she'll have none of him. Schmidt's friends Ted, Queenie, and some goofy firemen try to help out, and things come to a slapstick head when Louise needs rescuing from a fire. IMDB

Los Tres Chiflados (The Three Stooges en inglés) fue un grupo de actores cómicos estadounidenses activo entre 1922 y 1970, más conocidos por sus 190 cortometrajes por Columbia Pictures que han sido emitidos regularmente por televisión desde 1959. Su elemento principal ha sido el humor absurdo y el slapstick. Seis integrantes han formado parte del equipo a lo largo de su trayectoria (solamente con tres activos en cualquier periodo): Moe Howard y Larry Fine han sido los miembros que han quedado fijos a lo largo de la carrera del trío de casi 50 años y el pivotal «tercer Chiflado» ha sido interpretado (en orden de aparición) por Shemp Howard, Curly Howard, Shemp Howard nuevamente, Joe Besser, y Curly Joe DeRita.

El acto empezó a inicios de los años 1920 como parte del acto cómico del vodevil denominado como "Ted Healy and His Stooges" (Ted Healy y sus Chiflados), consistiendo originalmente de Healy y Moe Howard. “Soup to Nuts” was not only the debut of the Three Stooges, but it was also Shemp’s only appearance with the group before he left and rejoined the team in 1947. He was also the original third stooge, but the most popular line up is with Curly as the third stooge.

Notice how Shemp is the leader of the three in Soup To Nuts. Moe’s character hadn’t been fully developed yet.

For fun watch "Soup To Nuts" (1930) back to back with "Fright Night" (1947). Shemp had not appeared as a Stooges since "Soup" but in his first short back it's as if he never left. (The earliest Shemp films are better than the last ten Curly shorts.)

What's interesting is that the guy playing checkers with Ted Healy would later appear in some of the Stooge shorts such as "Hold That Lion!" and "Pest Man Wins". His name was Heinie Conklin.

As much as I love this film and the stooges, I absolutely HATE Ted Healy with a burning passion. What a rotten excuse for a human being. Sure, the stooges would be nothing without him, but my God! He used some shady tactics to keep them and I’m glad the boys left him in ‘34!

Wow, @1.00, when Healy pushes that fireman back to the wall and he crashes down into the chair...I didn't find that funny. Even in terms of Stooge violence and mayhem, that just seemed mean and bully-like. We had a long way to go in terms of refining the act I see.
