Cats and dogs in the wild have a natural instinct to compete for prey, which can lead to confrontations between them. While it may appear that they "hate" each other, this behavior is rooted in their evolutionary history. Their wild DNAs have shaped their instincts to perceive each other as potential threats and competitors.

My brother and I shared a house, and I was owned by a cat while he owned a dog. The dog wanted to chase my cat, but my cat was the self-appointed King of the house and he set the rules. Any disobedience on the dog's part was initially countered by claws. It took three days, but the dog learned the cat was in charge and not to be bothered. Our second cat, and subsequently, the daughter kittens, he also learned, mainly because the tomcat reinforced the rules when he caught the dog breaking them with one of the kittens. He then taught the kittens that they too could handle dogs, with pure authority as they were his children, but with claws if need be. He was very clear; if they got scared and acted like prey, dogs would treat them like prey. If they treated the dog as if he were beneath them and ignored him, they would usually end up victorious. But in the rare case when it didn't work, he made sure they knew how dogs attack - and how cats can counter it. The only tactic I clearly remember was letting a dog charge, then just before contact, step to the side. He'll bypass the cat, allowing her to get several claw swats in as he passes. Of course, being a cat, he also taught them a trick for emergencies only; you don't stop a dog by hitting his nose, that just expressed a stop command. You stop an attacking dog by hitting his eye. This isn't that shocking. The tomcat had spent some time outside as a kitten when I was at college (my family is nuts), and he had been bothered by several neighbor dogs. But he used these dogs as teachers, learning how to fight dogs to a draw over a few weeks' time, which is why he believed himself King. By the time he was done, no dog and few cats challenged him. Even one dog who's owner commanded him to attack my tomcat instead sat there, to which my tomcat responded by giving him a quick rub of friendship and then moving on to investigate more of 'his' territory. Sometimes a dog has more sense (after losing to a cat a few days earlier) than a human does.

In point of fact, the tomcat once even intervened at the dog's request, driving the kittens off of him because they were working together to beat him up mercilessly. He reminded the kittens that he taught them how to combat dogs to shut down attacks on the kittens, not so the kittens could prey on him. (And by father, I mean it. He used my brother's bird to teach the kittens hunting practice and made sure they knew the rules of the litter box, among other things).

I've since learned that this is common. Cats run from dogs - temporarily, to size them up and determine how big a threat they are. The only cats dogs successfully kill are cats who don't know anything about dealing with dogs and overreact with fear.

The best relationships are when the cat figures out the dog is looking for an alpha and offers herself as queen instead, which establishes the hierarchy dogs are looking for and means that cat need fight only very seldom. Usually a simple meow will be enough to get commands across.
The worst are where fear rules and neither animal learns to truly accept the other, which results in endless chasing.

Cats are relaxed but cause trouble when bored the dog sees it as provocation

Because Cats are often predatory rivals to Dogs when it comes to competition for natural resources. While some Dogs don't hate them at all, it's mainly due to them being natural rivals.

Yesterday my kitten was killed by 3 f* dogs for the little moment she was out of sight I’ve always been protecting her cuz the dogs have tried to harm her previously and also killed her sister. And yesterday the same death happened to her as well. My cat was out of my sight for 5 mins and I hear her screaming but when I ran to her she has left this world. It’s devastating. She was the one who always made me feel okay when I’m not and sleep together with me and now she’s gone. I still didn’t see the dogs as I hit the dogs very hard in the situation they screamed and ran away but iswtg if I see the dogs again it’s not gonna end well to them
