My father, Alex Sergheyev, born 1902, is from Irkutsk. (He's dead now, and I'm 70, born 1954). He only lived there until he was 15, but then had to leave for America to continue his education. The schools were closed in Irkutsk because of the fighting. He died when I was 11 and never said much about his hometown. I noticed it was an industrial city on the SW coast of a large lake. This is the same as Chicago, where he eventually settled, and where I was born.

I don't like how he always says "siberia" when he's in any cold part of russia. i live in the siberian federal region as well, but I'd probably have to get on a pretty long flight to get there. lake baikal is located in Buryatia in particular.
