20% of total earth fresh water? Wow that's a lot. They'll never be thirsty.

Just here to thank this man for archiving this event! In 1982 I was involved in a trip covering 110km across a river inlet on Lake Baikal, and if it weren't for fresh snowfall I'd have seen what this man captured! Thank You

The ice seemed very thin at first but then saw the fissure and it looks deep ...
maybe a foot of ice ? The ice is so clear and the water so its like being in air and you feel that you could fall or break thru.

Everytime I see some gorgeous nature videos, it just makes me cry at how sad it is that I can't travel outside of California ;-; I can't afford it

- It was created by a continental rift, where tectonic plates are pulling apart
- It is the worlds oldest lake with proven age, and definitely among the top 3 oldest
- Max. length 636 km (395 mi)
- Max. width 79 km (49 mi)
- Average depth 744.4 m (2, 442 ft)
- Max. depth 1, 642 m (5, 387 ft)
- Water volume 23, 615.39 km3 (5, 670 cu mi)
- It contains 27 islands
- On average the ice reaches 0.5 to 1.4m thick- easily enough for this guy to walk on
- It is the only lake in the world to have its own species of seal 🦭
- It has its own unique ecosystem- up to 25% of the species in the lake only live in Baikal.

I'd dare walk there like that holding on a rope anchored somewhere and wearing a lifejacket.

The ice looks magnificent because of non-polluted and clear water, they make it look so shallow..💕

I can't be the only one who got butterflies looking straight down into the lake when he pointed the camera down, not out of beauty, but terror of something coming out of nowhere or him falling deeper and deeper....also why I stay knee deep in the ocean I guess. I gotta stop watching this stuff 😂, still gorgeous!!
