The Cosmere is a vast and complex universe filled with many fantasy worlds, each with their own unique peoples, cultures, and magic systems. And since the Cosmere is a universe that is actively being worked on by Brandon Sanderson as he writes new books, there are bound to be some interesting things we could encounter that aren’t very well explained or understood. These mysterious aspects of the Cosmere cause a lot of speculation that are often fun subjects to delve into, however I never really had a way to approach these subjects before.

So I’ve decided to start a new series on the channel called Cosmere Mysteries...

I would argue that shades are cognitive shadows because of Khriss' threnody essay in Arcanum Unbound. "Or perhaps they fear the spirits of the dead. People on Threnody are afflicted with a particular ailment that -- upon death -- sometimes turns them into what we call a cognitive shadow". It then goes into detail on what a cognitive shadow is. The Khriss essays in Arcanum Unbound are pretty interesting and have some cool information. While Khriss isn't all knowing or anything, she is pretty reliable generally, so I would say that its pretty safe to say that shades are cognitive shadows.

I really liked this video and I think that this could be a great series, there are tons of mysteries in the Cosmere.

I believe that cognitive shadows differentiate a lot from each other depending on what Shard invested them.

Good question, and great idea for an ongoing series! Threnody is weird, man... What the hell is the Evil anyway?

Without getting into spoilers, I totally thought the shades were cognitive shadows after reading mistborn: a secret history. It definitely made it seem that way. But, after watching your video, I question. Good job!

We don't really know too much about this but I personally don't think Shades are Cognitive Shadows, they are likely something relatively similar but different or an exception. As you point out there isn't much they have in common and I think many people think they are Cognitive Shadows because it seems like Khriss thinks so
