Do you think aliens live there?

// where you can find me //

// about //
I am an Astrophysics student from Australia exploring science communication. I was never destined to be a scientist. And yet, through science communication on YouTube, my life was changed. Creators lit a spark of curiosity in me that I've never put out. Come along for the journey. It's going to be a long one.

The fact that it’s only 40 light years away is pretty awesome🙌🏾. It’s usually hundreds and thousands😭

Imagine as we travel to the Trappist system one day people are woken from cryo sleep and look out the window to see an alien ship going in the opposite direction back towards earth

We would be looking at 40 years in the past (in light year time). So we are looking at life in the 1980!!! THATS A GOOD YEAR HAHAHA

I love how they say “just 40 light years away” 😂 it’s like, yeah, we can be there in a few million years time;)

I'm just gonna play devil's advocate here for a second - keep in mind that the animations are all artists representations. The real images of these exoplanets would be no bigger than one, maybe two pixels. As a matter of fact, most exoplanets have been discovered because, as they transit across their parent star, the brightness of the star decreases very slightly, so we don't even really get a chance to "see" them, we just know there's something there. The only real information we can infer from these images are the distances between these planets and their parent star and/or the size of the planets themselves.

I like to think that, in the future, people will look back at the relatively low resolution images of our telescopes and that one day, the artists representations will become actual images picked up by the telescopes of our progeny.

If the aliens were looking at us, wouldn't it be more like they were seeing Earth 40 years ago, in the 80's?

I wish I had a advanced spaceship with AI for me to travel across deep in space and visit these planets and galaxies.

Imagine the fun wars we could have because we hate the entities on a neighboring planet.
