King didn't buy the van that hit him. His wife, Tabitha, did. She bought it and had it destroyed while King was still in the hospital. She's a published author too btw.

I've read a dozen or two of King novels. Lots of Poe too.
My favorite horror author is Dean Koontz. Halfway through reading Phantoms, my little dog walked by me and brushed my elbow. Pretty sure my heart skipped 3 beats.

Reminds me of when I was walking the tracks with a friend when young. I was hypnotized one day when staring down while walking between the tracks. Lost in my own little world, I lost the ability to hear anything. Fortunately I woke up just in time to see my friend waving at me from his advanced position. I turned my head to see a train engine approaching fast behind me with his horn blowing. I jumped away just in time to avoid being hit.

Today I’m a Christian and recall many similar types of events where I should have died if it were not for divine intervention.

Sounds like he has PTSD that was never treated. All those fears are caused by childhood traumas and they get worse as you get older.

When I was 12 or 13, I watched my friend cross a highway on foot to meet me. He got hit by a late 70s Pontiac Bonneville. Time froze and I instantly went into shock. Its a memory that will never go away.
