In part two of our three part conversation with UltraRomance (the world's foremost bike packer, er "luxury cyclotourist") we discuss the forthcoming film, California Golde.

Shot entirely on Kodak Super 8 film in California's Sierra National Forest, the movie chronicles a completely analog tour—with no digital devices, apps, or GPS.

A window to a time before, as UltraRomance says, "we became cyborgs," it's a project he considers an "art film," blending the aesthetic of 70s surf movies with the modern-day popularity of off-road bike touring.

California Golde will premiere in March of 2019.

Bicycles have actually changed my world and helped me to be a better person for the world. At least I'm trying. But because of the experiences my perspective has expanded beyond previous limited beliefs. The struggle of mind body spirit often giving way to those long moments of awareness; the sense and memories of particular places and peoples far from home, becoming home; the realization of a personal worth and of a connection to all living things...what it is can only be lived and how fortunate one is to find their way to it. I was raised and lived without much money and the lack of funds need not keep a person stuck if they can get a bicycle, get a start and just go.

Awesome ideas thrown around here. So yeah, I also like the new territory being covered. You mentioned “wonderful losers” in a previous show, which sounds like a great way to see how demanding pro racing really is, and now this guy has a movie coming out. What’s next, you have Lance on the show? Ha! You guys rock, whatever you do.
