It was actually a pretty interesting situation to have these guys in Beast Wars. In most versions of a Transformers story, Megatron is the undisputed leader of his faction. So to have a Megatron that was a rebel and troublemaker to other, higher-ranking antagonists was a fascinating angle to give his character 😊

Interesting how the vagueness surrounding any character(s) can open the door to numerous narrative possibilities. The Council is no exception.

For whatever reason, the BotCon toys' bios heavily implied that Cicadacon and Sea Clamp had been "hiding" as Shockwave and Soundwave. Which... er, that's one way to characterise them, I guess!
(Ram Horn, meanwhile, is only said to have either been an Autobot or killed an Autobot and stolen his name. RIP, rhino cassettebot.)

It's a shame that because of Fox Kids and Hasbro's handling of Beast Machines we never got a follow up to the Tripredacus plot line, they would have been excellent villains for the series and maybe better fit the stance Megatron had during that series of converting the entire cybertronian race into a "pure elegant machine"

with Larry Ditillio's passing, i hope someday we get a follow up to this plot line, maybe in an alternate timeline where events happened differently when the Maximals came out of Transwarp space

The inclusion of the line "I and the tripredacus council have different origins" in season 3 of beast wars will forever haunt me. I must know where Tarantulas and the others came from.

Tripredacus was the first Transformer I bought as an adult, back in the day while visiting Italy. That opened up the whole Pandora's box LOL!

Dawn of the Predacus truly is a continuity headache
For instance, Sea Clamp and Cicadacon were implied to be the “true selves” of Soundwave and Shockwave!

they were also mentioned On two occasions in the 2001 Robots in Disguise dub.
Megatron mentions the Predacon Council. Being as the dub was filled with references of past Transformers shows, the Predacon Council likely derived from the Tripredacus Council and not exist in the Japanese version Car Robots, however.

Have to admit that the people at Mainframe. Unintentionally created something good and all because the budget was limited. That shows how good they were with making the series.

In the episode after Tarantulas reveals that the Tripedicus Council and himself, Megatron referred to Tarantulas as "spawn of Unicron", which could be just an insult. However, it wouldn't be the first time that a fairly mundane line from Beast Wars was later developed into having more meaning, like when Terrorsaur told one of the Maximals (Cheetor I think) "welcome to the dark side" when they appeared in their base, which was later expanded to have the Darksyde be the name of their ship.

I owned Magnaboss as a kid, but never Tripredacus. Unfortunately, I lost most of the parts for him

Posing as the Jointron brothers was the Tripredacus Council’s sinister plan.

Never thought I'd see Transformers and Mariachi's together!😂

I like the idea of them coming from Generation 2 rather than the spawn of Unicorn because in G1 continuity Unicorn needed to convert dead cybertronian in order to spawn them

One theory I had as a child (and still wholeheartedly believe in nearly 25 years later) was that the Tri-Predacus Council were in fact the Insecticons. A lot of the evidence on the show seemed to point that way:
. 3 insect (or insect-esque) villains.
. They're origins were not linked to those Decpticons present on the Ark as they had escaped The Nemesis in an escape pod.
. Destroying the Transformers inside the Ark would have left them free to Ravage the Earth.
. Even though they "died" in the 86 movie they're still seen both later on in the movie and in season 3, meaning like most insects, they are very hard to kill and would likely have survived the war.

Huh. I always thought these guys were part of the ORIGINGAL Predacon group we saw introduced in G1 that engaged Skylinx in the Five Faces of Darkness episodes. That always explained the line of "not coming from Decepticons", because Predaking and his component Predacons were built by the Quintessons.

I still have that combo toy.
I never realized they were the head evil dudes from the show
I thought it was just ones they made that weren't in the cg show. Had no idea that all the other toys were from a 2nd Japanese cartoon

Getting this three pack as a christmas present is a core memeory for me.
Theyre some of my favorite Beast Wars figures. Thanks for the video and the trip down memory lane!🤙🏻

I knew virtually nothing about these guys. It’s rare that I don’t have an even passing knowledge of something from transformers. I enjoyed this episode.
