Please don’t abandon ducks at the park 🙏

The growing problem of pet ducklings being bought as Easter gifts Is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.

These domesticated pet ducks are then being released at local parks and unfortunately most of them do not survive.

The domesticated birds do not belong in the wild. Despite their down coats, domesticated fowl often cannot survive a winter. They are at the mercy of people for food who only feed them bread, and they can't fly away when their pond freezes over. Even those that are able to fly don't know where to go or what environment to seek because they are accustomed to quarters with food, shelter and water.

The birds become targets for predators, roving dogs, snapping turtles, hawks, even each other.

As well as more fun lighthearted content to raise awareness and help people see animals as relatable to themelves, hopefully Inspiring more people to help these little abandoned feathered angels live a better life 🙏

This is so true that they’re abandoned too, some people think just because you see abit of fluff on their body doesn’t mean they’re well fed, I see a lot of skinny ducks and bread is unhealthy. Thank you for bringing awareness ❤️ Going for the funny story route is so brilliant, this is pretty awesome!

I’ve had my duck for nearly 10 years. They are not easy pets and they live a long time. If they get ill you need to take the duck to an Avian veterinarian. Many small towns don’t have one. If you go on vacation you need to find a bird sitter because they can’t go to a kennel. They need constant companionship, cleaning and tons of fresh water daily. They are awesome but you need to be ready to commit. If you get a baby duck you better be ready to keep it for life! Abandoned ducks die terrible deaths. Never put a domestic duck in the wild. If you do, you are a bad person.

I feel so guilty. I won Ducky Daddle at a church spring fair. I really loved him. My family was going on a two-week vacation, so Ducky and I walked to the pond across the park. We played there for the day with some other ducks, and I thought I could just walk back home, and he'd stay with his new friends--nope, he followed me. The next day, Ducky Daddle rode on my lap as Mom drove us to the pond. She slowed down while I threw him out the car window. Then Mom gunned the car. I am still sad. I was 12 and now I am 75.

I love my duck. She wasn't mine at first. My colleague bought the eggs and hatched them in a machine. Few came out and my duck was the sole survisor. She's my first pet. I love her. I'd never thought that ducks could be so passionate.

Coots are there too. Also, the Easter duckling dump is a sad and real thing. I also have to wonder how many ducklings don't even live long enough to get dumped b/c ppl didn't give them the proper food, etc.
