Pay for the oil change
yourself. Don't wait 10k miles.

Oil change every 10k on a turbo charged engine!?!? Thats insane! Do the oil change yourself man. 10k is wayyyy to long for a turbo engine. Heck its too long for a naturally aspirated engine. Also dont believe the dealer scumbags. They will always try and low ball you. Im sure its worth more.

I got Tacoma 2020 SR5 with 110K. Zero recall, I have no issue. Just regular maintenance. I will never trade my 2020 Taco with 2024.

I worked a t a Subaru dealership. I bought and built up a Subaru Forester XT close to the STI specs. I talked to a knowable Subaru mechanic and he recommended changing synthetic oil every 3200 miles because it was turbo charged. I followed his advice and had no issues. I sold it when it had 250, 000 miles on it and it was still running strong because of proper maintenance. I currently own a 3 gen Tacoma and do the regular maintenance myself as I did on the Subie.

I appreciate your honest appraisal. I think I'll keep my 2020 TRD Sport with 45k miles until I reach 200k at least. Thanks!

My 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road is worth MORE today than what I paid for it

I work for a large rental vehicle company before I purchased my 2023 Tacoma SR5 v6 4x4 fully loaded, I rented a Tacoma for 2 weeks just to make sure it’s what I wanted. Did a few mods replaced the front grill (hated the chrome that went around the grill) replaced the chrome signals on the side mirrors, added 4 Bilstein 5100’s (gave it a 2” lift in the front) added a 1” block in the back and 32” Toyo AT3’s, plus an S&B closed cold air filter. Yesterday I finally got a chance to drive a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road it didn’t have a drivers power seat and no dual climate control (mine has both) which I was very surprised anyway it drove nice good handling and acceleration, I drove over 3 speed bumps at 25mph and it handled them well. What did ruin the experience was the uncomfortable driving position of the seat and I’m not really knocking it because everyone is different, and some might like it. Just speaking for myself I will keep my 2023 over the 2024 that I drove.

Still driving my 2015 with 180k and no issues, (oh wait I did have a headlight burn out) think I'll keep it.

The fact that the SR5 went up $4, 000 more than the previous years is a tough pill to swallow also….

Bought my '22 SR double cab 4 cyl brand new for $30, 600 Labor Day weekend 2022. Current CarMax offer is $29, 400. Depreciated only $1, 200. But I won't sell it because it's the last of Toyotas uncomplicated, trouble free pickups.

There's way more competition out there in the mid-sized truck market and it's gotten stiffer over the past year. Ford, Chevy, even Nissan has dramatically stepped up their offerings. I leased a 2024 TRD Off-Road at the end of June. Sticker price was $7, 500 more than my 2021 TRD off-Road lease (of which was only 30 months into) and it's way less truck than my 2021. I paid $35K for a 2021 TRD Off-Road with the Premium package. To say I'm disappointed with how much TMC has increased the cost of the Taco is an understatement. Gotta say I feel like TMC has gotten greedy lately.

Really enjoyed your commentary. I see that you’re Taco lover also. I have the 2020 Pro in the army green I bought new it’s my 3rd Taco and as you said driven them for 2 to 3 year trade them in maybe lost 3, 000 to $5000 in depreciation but will worth it. I have about 70, 000 miles on it now & I don’t have the slightest inclination to trade it in for a new Tacoma. Really love the dependability and the on road and off-road capabilities. Btw you can go in at 7500 miles and they’ll give you that prepaid oil change. Enjoy and see you down the road.

Another thing to think about. Covid inflated prices a lot. So something you bought before Covid won’t seem like it lost value compared to the new stuff
