Fix Audio Crackling or Popping Sounds in Windows 10 [Tutorial]

Crackling, popping, and other sound problems can occur for a variety of reasons. You may be able to fix the problem by adjusting your audio device settings, updating your sound driver, or pinning down another hardware device that’s interfering. Here are some things to try.

If while you’re using your Windows 10 PC, you hear audio crackling, static, stutter, or popping sounds emerging from the audio output device/speakers, then one of these fixes is sure to help you.

Before you start messing with settings, it’s worth checking your hardware itself. If a cable connection is loose, this could cause some sound problems. Ensure all your audio cables are connected securely. If the problem persists, here are a few potential solutions.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, and Samsung).

All the solutions I have tried only work for a few minutes and then back to crackling. This is BS now. Seems no one has a permanent solution.

Insane to me that this actually worked since I thought it was an issue with my audio interface. I got a Motu M2 and I was having these random subtle pops and cracks when audio is played so if you got a usb interface like a Focusrite, Presonus, Motu, etc. definitely give this a shot.

wow man. I've been doing audio engineering for almost 5 years and have extensive knowledge on which specific audio settings to use and I've never seen this. I'm not even sure what that did but it stopped my soundbar from crackling every second. Thank you so much brother.

Hi... i want to share my expirence. After reinstalling windows 10 due to a SSD fatal crash, i had Crackling or Popping Sounds in the audio. I reinstalled the Realtek audio controller (with his infinite installing loop) and couldnt solve the issue. After trying and trying i decided to move to windows 11, just in case to solve the problem, no solution. After trying over (aprox) 20 differents solutions (differents drivers, older drivers, manual driver intallation, latency issues, audiosrv service on the windows manager, priority and affinity in windows manager etc etc) I've discovered that the problem was the interference generated by internet modem ( cable modem with wifi / 5g wifi) possitioned near the Logitech logi z609 5.1 speaker..
After moving the modem aprox 20 cm away, ual-la!!

sound is still crackling even at low volume the high notes will always cause some sort of crackling. Bluetooth headphones work perfectly fine but the sound from the 3.5 mm headphone jack is fucked up

2 years ago you posted this video. It helped me today. Can`t believe such a simple fix, while not the obvious one for me though, did fix the issue.

Can't thank you enough, saved my day!
Cheers!

This worked for me. I had audio issues with my audio out ports. Each one seemed to be passing on some background noise from the hard drive or something. After a few seconds of no sound irritating clicking or beeping would happen (port dependent). After I followed these instructions the sounds stopped happening.

PC - Just go to power setting and choose a custom power plan.. Set it to "high performance" hope this helps .. if your on a laptop set the minimum process state to 100%

Performance is the problem here with me with Windows 11. Even balanced battery has crackling. Thus I guess stick to high performance mode. Thank you so much sir

Thanks for the video! I tried both suggestions and neither worked. I get a pop in my left speaker at about 50 pops per minute. Any idea what the problem is?

it's not functional. I have connected with HDMI PC to TV, TV forwarded the sound to AVR System eARC. Windows 7 ok, Windows 10 - movies ok, everything worked. After installing two games, the sound started to crackle in windows 10. Reinstalling the driver of the graphics card that sent the sound did not help. Before that I did a windows update, it is possible that something went wrong.
