With preorders selling out, scalpers taking over the market, and passionate fans feeling left out is there any point in even bothering with the SNES Classic Edition? Personally I dont think so. Here is the reasons I will NOT buy an SNES Classic Edition!

I sure hope you weren't hoping to preorder the Super NES Classic Edition, the pint-sized $80 (£80, roughly AU$105) remake of one of Nintendo's most beloved game consoles. Because Nintendo doesn't seem to want your money.

How else would you explain what loyal Nintendo fans went through in the past 18 hours?

We woke up this morning to find that Best Buy and Amazon, two of only six retailers pledged to carry the SNES Classic, had launched their preorders late at night or in the wee hours of the morning at 3 a.m. -- with no warning whatsoever. We didn't find any email notifications in our inbox, even though we'd signed up. Nintendos new micro console is also sometimes called the SNES mini or the Super NES Mini or the Super Nintendo Mini. The SNES min comes pack 21 complete games that are Contra 3: The Alien Wars, Donkey Kong Country, EarthBound, Final Fantasy 3, F-Zero, Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Course, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mega Man X, Secret of Mana, Star Fox, Star Fox 2, Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Castlevania 4, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Super Punch-Out!! Nintendo is so obsessed with making their consoles seem rare and interesting that I am simply losing interesting in even bothering to hunt them down.

Wrong. You WILL buy it whether you like it or not. I demand it!

Why can't they simply just sell a lot and make more money...

As a Brazilian i agree so much with this. Nintendo ceased their operations here in brazil, so when they released the nintendo classic i wasn't able to import nor even pre order. I got so upset because when the system came to brazil, it came by resellers costing equivalent of 300 dollars ...

I agree with you. I have been a long time Nintendo supporter but they are REALLY pissing me off lately.

It's Nintendo's loss anyway. Now, instead of giving them my money and buying an SNES Classic, I'll just stick to emulating them on my PC and phone or buy an SNES second hand.

I have lost all interest in buying Nintendo products because of this.

Just do what regular adults do and get a raspberry pi or any low end linux machine to run all your retro games.

When the NES Classic went up for sale last year, my biggest peeve was with all the Pi snobs going "Dumbass, why buy when you can get this stuff and 100's more games for free?" I always considered doing that stealing. I figured I could stay honest and true to my values, and just wait out the scalpers and just grab one in late Spring or early Summer when stocks were replenished.

Then the stupid announcement came about the discontinuation in April (?).

Now? I've got a friend that does the Pi thing doing a build for me as I type this. Nintendo, I tried like hell to give you my money. I really, really did.

Not game related, but I remember during the NFL draft a number of years ago, somebody had asked Jerry Jones why he always took the full amount of time to make the draft selections for the Dallas Cowboys. His response indicated that the longer it took for him to submit the draft selections, the longer free advertising he was receiving for the Cowboys, as the entire league was discussing his team. It feels like Nintendo is following that same strategy, by building artificial demand by introducing scarcity. At least the gaming community is talking about them. Just some thoughts.

Don't blame Nintendo, blame all the scalpers. There'd be enough for everyone that wants one TO PLAY or COLLECT if the scalpers didn't bother.

Same for people I know who want to build a gaming PC. Thanks Miners, an RX 570 4Gig for $350? Um,

It's obvious Nintendo does it on purpose, theres no way in hell they don't know about the high demands of their hardwares and yet they keep doing this kind of tratic only for business purposes. Scalpers are having a field day👏

Boycott Nintendo completely. That is the only way to stop the nonsense.

There's an old 20/20 report on Youtube with John Stossel reporting on the original Nintendo in the 80s and people were claiming Nintendo was artificially making a shortage to increase hype. They always do that shit. Wii, Zelda 3DS, Amiibo, etc. They're a 100+ year old company and they have the manufacturing clout and stockpile of $$$ to produce enough units if they wanted to. Their fanboys will bend over backwards to make excuses for why they can't produce enough product, they are too blind to realize Nintendo always plays this same b.s. shortage hype game.

The 2 main reasons for not needing a SNES Mini are:
1. A Raspberry Pi
2. A modded original Xbox
3. An SD2SNES flash cart

There's no need to buy this overpriced cash in when you've got 3 far superior options already available.

I don't actually think it has anything to do with "false scarcity" when it comes to these mini consoles. I think it's more about Nintendo wanting to warm people up to the Nintendo brand in hopes that they'll buy a Switch. There is VERY limited money in hardware. Nintendo doesn't want to get into producing these mini consoles because it doesn't drive software sales, where the real profit is at. So they run these limited mini's to get people warmed up to Nintendo, in hopes they'll buy a Switch. Especially with these limited run mini units, there's absolutely ZERO reason to create false scarcity. It's not like they're going to be around forever. They're limited run items that Nintendo has no interest in stretching out for years. There's simply not enough profit margin. Their bread and butter is hardware that moves software. But the "false scarcity" notion does allow people to feel like "they figured Nintendo and their trickery out". Maybe that helps them sleep better at night. WIth the mini consoles, false scarcity makes no sense. They're trying to remind you of their brand.

I like your rant videos. It lets us hear your unbiased opinion. As far as this topic, the false rarity Nintendo creates is extremely frustrating. They are literally missing out on 100s of millions of dollars. Such a bad practice.

Playing games on your phone sucks ass compared to having a nice new official snes controller. Plus its hdmi and has rewind and save states. On top of that its collectible and game collecting is still very hot right now.
