HD never had 93% transmission, even the SF doesn't (and be aware companies often play it fast and loose with those numbers, while ZEISS gives you the total light out/light in ratio). It's so close between HD and HDX, you can't tell the difference. The glass HAS changed - the HD did not have a field flattener, and the type of glass has been updated. The HD always had quite the admirable sharpness for its price, and the HDX is a smidgen better. The weight has barely changed from HD to HDX, they poured what they saved on the housing weight (magnesium is much lighter than aluminum) right back into better glass and improved diopter and eyecups. The armor is also an improvement: with the HD, if you handled it daily and exposed it to enough heat and sunscreen and whatnot, it started to physically stretch, getting loose, and in bad cases the armor would begin to interfere with the focus wheel and/or the diopter (locking diopter also a good idea). HDX's armor is grippier and more durable.
But most important is the HDX's improved eyecups. Some people just couldn't handle the HD's eyecups and kept breaking them, they were a little too lightweight. The same won't happen with the HDX.
