NEW ZEISS Conquest HDX Binoculars vs. Conquest HD

I compared the the Zeiss Conquest HDX 8x42 and the Zeiss SFL 8x40 binoculars recently at a local birding society nature shop. They both were bright and clear to the edges of the FOV. I liked to the lighter weight of the SFL but wonder if it's worth the extra $500 at the current sale price. I do think that the CHDX 8x42 binoculars are an overall improvement over the previous version of the Conquests. I wanted to try the CHDX 8x32 and compare it to the Kowa Genesis 8x33, but they were both out of stock. I was impressed with the clarity and brightness of the Genesis 8x33 binoculars, but there doesn't seem to be very popular like Kowa's spotting scopes. Cheers!

Would love a comparison between the Zeiss Sfl vs Zeiss HDX

Too bad the hdx eyecups are not compatible with the hd. I checked in their website. :(

The focus knob on the SFL looks too low on the body... Otherwise I might be interested in getting those. Just a strange position, causing you to have to hold the binocular at the end of the barrells in order to use your forefinger for focusing... I'd like to try one out but don't know what store I could find them in.

Although the equalizer sounds good, it also has one big drawback. Those binoculars that have a field compensator look very good at first glance, but in reality the image loses its sharpness.

Can use and/or buy the HDX eyecups for the HD model and will they fit?

These "improvements" are not enough, so I keep on watching birds with my much prettier Conquest HD 🙂

Seems like Zeiss made some small improvements, but not enough to make it worth paying the difference for the new HDX model. It’s a rather disappointing update.
