Thinking outside the box works for me. Keep up the great work. Photographers at all levels enjoy learning tricks of the trade, looking behind the scenes is entertaining, as well as educational, and you just saved me a bit of $$! ;)

Great tip with the feathering with the umbrella/ softbox. I will use that tip for my next studio shoot.

I love the result, thanks for reminding me that light is light, no matter the source or modifier :)

Oh, I meant 'compare the results'. I was planning to order reflectors from B&H, but if white boards do the trick.... ;)

Can you compare the difference between using your white boards versus using regular reflectors, such as the Eye lighter?

So simple, so great results. Cheers from Costa Rica.

Nice, I like how you showed that natural light still requires modifiers to shape and direct light. There seems to be a lot of elitist natural light photographers who wouldn't go through the trouble. Their recipe is always the same... aperture priority, wide open, spot meter for skin and then who cares about the background. Clipped highlights and nuclear white skys. On the other end of the spectrum you have strobists who have to strobe everything even when mother nature gives you gorgeous light LOL. Light is light, there shouldn't be a natural and artificial category it should just be good or bad light period.

Hello if just started following you on YouTube and I love your work, I am also a photographer but I still need a lot to learn when it comes to using flash lights. I am going to shoot a friend maternity session and she wants some black and white pictures, I will love to replicate your first set up. Can you tell me what flash light and tripod are you using with your pro photo dome ? What type of backdrop do you recommend and I was planning on shooting with my canon 85mm 1.2 lens, if I will use that lens what will be my setting for the flash light ? Hope you can help thanks !

Hey Nathan, I've been into street photography for just over a year now and own a Fuji x100T. For someone who wants to get into black and white portraiture, where would you recommend I start? Thanks

Nathan what light are you using for that first setup?

Great Video Nathan! Maybe a silly and not important question, but I saw at other shooting as well that the model is usually sitting during portrait shooting. Is there any advantage of that?

Nathan great video ... appreciate how forthcoming you are in sharing techniques. Quick question and your convenience... can you help me source some of that opaque film you're using on the front windows of your studio? If so would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! Kenneth
