I remember the first time I shot with flash, it was like the planets aligned. I had no idea what I was doing but I was like, "woah, this is a game changer". It seriously doesn't need to be some $1, 000 studio strobe to get pro results.

This was honestly so helpful, it such a time efficient manner. I used to always use natural lighting and was hesitant, still kinda am, to learn something outside my comfort zone. Videos like this are exactly why I follow Manny. Will be buying this gear soon to use for myself in the future. THANK YOU

Thank you for FINALLY thinking about us everyday normal portrait photographers who can’t have a $20, 000 setup.

Quick and to the point man. That was exceptional information without the need for 15-20 minutes of filler. Keep up the great work.

The internet is reading my mind! I told my wife just this morning that since I've saved up some monies, I wanted to invest into some lighting gear but purposely wanted to stay within a budget... then this vid is the first thing I see when I open my YouTube. Thanks, Manny!

great tips, thanks for sharing 👍
keep things simple as long as you can, that`s what I like most - a speedlite, a translucent umbrella, if possible set the light angle of the speedlite to wide angle to avoid a hotspot in the middle and cover the back of this set-up with a light-proof black cloth to simulate a softbox and to suppress light scattering as good as possible, this might help sometimes to be more effective even when using a cheap umbrella - be creative so use different flash and model positions and distances from the background, change the background color, so use a light grey background and a hidden second speedlite with different color gels only for the background, so you can get any color you like, otherwise it will be boring in the long run - there`s basically no right or wrong, there`s only the photographer's own preferences - the equipment doesn`t always have to be new, that saves money not only if you`re on a budget and you can't see it in the photos 😉

I love the Lume panels. I use them constantly with car photo shoots. Lay it in the front seat to get some light and added depth easy.

Manny, this is just what I needed. I have an A6400 and this type of budget flash setup is exactly what I would want. Much appreciated!

Thanks for featuring an ACTUAL budget set up! I have a second-hand Yongnuo manual flash, wireless trigger and cheap umbrella. Easily less than $60 and it makes my photos look like they used hundreds of dollars worth of gear.

Thanks for this. I've been experimenting with a cheap flashgun for a while and have been pleased with the results. I'm interested I'm trying a two light setup with a couple of different colours so this looks like a cheap and effective way to try that out.
