It's truly fascinating to think about how the ancient Egyptians managed to build such colossal structures like the pyramids thousands of years ago! While there are no surviving written records detailing the exact methods, archaeologists and engineers have developed several compelling theories based on evidence found at the sites and understanding the technology available at the time.
Here's a breakdown of the most widely accepted ideas:
1. Quarrying the Stone:
* The Egyptians used copper chisels, drills, and saws, along with abrasive materials like sand, to cut the relatively softer limestone blocks from nearby quarries.
* For harder stones like granite, which was used for inner chambers and some exterior casing, they employed even more laborious techniques like pounding with dolerite (a hard stone), drilling, and sawing with the aid of sand abrasion. They didn't have iron tools at this point.
* Quarry workers often left marks on the blocks, sometimes even including the names of their work gangs.
2. Transporting the Blocks:
* Moving these massive stones (some weighing several tons) was a significant challenge. The prevailing theory involves using sledges pulled by large teams of workers.
* To reduce friction, they likely wetted the sand in front of the sledges, making it easier to drag the heavy loads. Evidence of this has been found in tomb paintings.
* For longer distances, especially for stone sourced across the Nile (like the fine white limestone from Tura), they used boats and barges to transport the blocks along the river.
3. Lifting and Placing the Blocks:
This is where the most debate and various theories exist:
* Ramps: This is the most widely accepted method. It's believed they constructed ramps made of earth, brick, and stone to haul the blocks up as the pyramid grew taller.
* Straight Ramps: A long, straight ramp leading directly to the construction level. The main challenge with this is that the ramp would have to become increasingly long and large as the pyramid rose.
* Zigzag or Switchback Ramps: Ramps that went up the sides of the pyramid in a zigzag pattern, reducing the steepness.
* Spiral Ramps (Internal or External): Ramps that spiraled around the outside of the pyramid or even possibly within the structure itself. Evidence for internal ramps has been suggested in some pyramid designs.
* Levers: The ancient Greek historian Herodotus mentioned the use of levers to lift blocks from one level to the next. While the wheel hadn't been invented for transportation, levers would have been a crucial tool for maneuvering and positioning the stones.
* Water Power: A more recent and less mainstream theory suggests the possible use of a sophisticated hydraulic system to lift blocks, based on discoveries at the Step Pyramid of Djoser. This would imply a much greater understanding of hydraulic engineering than previously thought.
Workforce:
* Contrary to popular belief, the pyramids were likely not built solely by slave labor. Evidence suggests a skilled and organized workforce of tens of thousands of laborers, craftsmen, and overseers.
* These workers were likely paid in rations of food and drink (like bread and beer) and may have worked in shifts, possibly during the Nile's flood season when agricultural work was limited.
* Work gangs even had names, indicating a level of organization and perhaps even pride in their work.
Timeline:
* The construction of a large pyramid like the Great Pyramid of Giza likely took several decades, possibly 20-30 years.
* This would have involved a continuous and highly coordinated effort to quarry, transport, and place an enormous number of stone blocks (millions in the case of the Great Pyramid).
In conclusion, the construction of the pyramids was a monumental feat of engineering and organization, relying on ingenious methods that utilized the available technology and a vast, skilled workforce. While the exact details of how they lifted the highest stones remain a topic of ongoing research and debate, the ramp theory, combined with the use of sledges, levers, and a well-managed labor force, provides the most plausible explanation for this incredible achievement of the ancient world.

Fun fact: The ocean was never so large, it was Steve who mined it all out to create the ocean and then used an infinite water block from Beta Minecraft to create the ocean. Steve then went on inspired by his ancestors and took inspiration from their brick pyramids from early Minecraft. He then went on to build the pyramids.

You see kids, the Egyptians were in the desert and there was only sand that was easily found. They were on a mission to protect the bed so they searched and one day found both water and lava so they build high up and poured them together and created the ultimate bed protection! And if someone broke in the bed was upgraded and there was a person in the bed protecting it!

Fun fact mojang just nerfed the iron golem. Acoring to my cacualtions an iron sword deals about 6 hearts. Minus the stick it will do 5. This means a sigular iron block will do 17 hearts. And the iron golem is doing damage with both hands. Which means he should actually deal 34 hearts.
