Strap in for some unconventional wisdom on securing massive loads! Is there such a thing as too many straps? Absolutely. Join me as I challenge the norm and opt for just two tiny chains, barely connected to the truck, to lock down over 100,000 pounds of logs. Sometimes, simplicity is the key to a secure journey. And of course, a little orange flag for that extra touch of assurance. Let's roll confidently on the road of minimalism and maximum trust! 🚛🍃 #TruckWisdom #LessIsMore #SecureSimplicity"

THAT'S HIM! THAT'S THE FINAL DESTINATION GUY!

For regular flatbed (not logging) the guy who trained me when I started said these wise words "you can over secure a load as many times as you want but you can only under secure it once." And I held to that my entire flatbed career and never had any problems

I worked ar a dispatch office with a photo of one of their trucks on its side in the ditch with its lumber load intact. The sign said "This is how loads are to be secured".

“Plus I got a little orange flaAg, we’re good”

Delivery 10/10 would trust again

As long as you slap it and say "That ain't going anywhere!", then the load is secure. this is a critical step that must be performed.👍

From what DOT told me. If I roll my trailer and my load is still attached to the trailer than I secured properly. Use every strap and chain you got lol

Yep, that little orange flag is worth about 50, 000lbs all by itself!

Works for me, as long I’m not behind you.

An undersecured log load shifted on a mountain road in TN years ago where it sideswiped my 28 year old uncle doing army reserve guard maneuvers in his jeep killing him instantly. He had three little Boys under 6 years old at home in IN. Never forgot that negligence and it's inpact on the lives of so many in our families.

A wise old trucker told me years ago (before I started driving) that "a chain doesn't weigh any less on the headache rack than it does on the load, so you might as well put it on the load"

This and final destination will always be in my mind rent free when stuck behind those trucks.

My dad was a lumber truck driver, he never had a mess up, but multiple co-workers did. He's seen first hand what happens when you don't use enough.

The motto i was taught was simple.
"You won't learn if you over do it, but you'll learn real quick if you don't"

As a forklift instructor trainer, I have emphasized for the last 15 years how important securing your load is. Thought my students listened. Well one of them was obviously an expert so he didn't need no teaching. 2 days after getting his certificate, had an accident that cost his buddy a foot.

At least I have pictures to show my next students how important know where your load is now.

We used to have a lot of logging trucks around here, decades ago. I recall one instance my uncle recounted a time a trucker carrying logs was rear-ended so hard that a log that wasn’t so secure came through his cab and decapitated him. I have always given wide berth to logging trucks my whole driving life. Learning what decapitation was at 6 years old scared me for life!

An old guy once told me, that you can't stop a load from going where it wants to go, when it wants to go, you can however make it so it has to take the trailer and truck with it.

Growing up in a logging community this sense of humor just makes my day cuz it reminds me of my neighbor who used to drive for a logging company. He would always say hes more secure then a cop in a cop car 😂

I was once helping some bridge workers on a different crew than mine, and we were loading a Link-Belt 145x on a tilt deck trailer behind a dump truck. We secured it with seven chains, four for the trackhoe, two for the blade, and one for the boom. I wasn't there the next day, but the driver of the truck took a curve to hard, and flipped the trailer, and the machine was still firmly attached to the trailer, and even when the wrecker truck flipped it back upright, the machine was still secured.

Man is he in for a HUGE surprise. Hauled that stuff for 18 years. Yes, you need lots of straps & chains to secure the loads you haul.
