not a contradiction, he's basically telling him he's already achieved his goal

that slam on the desk was a nice touch

There is a time and place for everything. Even if he will never become big or achieve his goal. He can at least have feeling of his idol telling him he is already there.

"There was nothing standing in our way and we barely got there" is such a good line.

Do the thing because you love it, but always have a backup

When kids ask Jerry Seinfeld if they can be a standup comedian he tells them no and to give up. He says if they can take that and keep going, they have what it takes to be a standup comedian.

It’s a hilarious video. But in terms of what he’s saying, I think both statements are genuine. They aren’t really mutually exclusive. Just 2 sides of the same coin. Not implying that that’s what you think, OP. Just adding my 2 cents. Great edit. I had a very large, wheeze filled haha.

Aww i feel bad for him. He had to lie not to crush the kids dream. He may be right but he had to lie because ambition leads to good things even if it isnt exactly what you had initially dreamed up.

So no one can realize that when Bo said to give up he was joking.

We gotta stop holding to people as if they’re opinions are made of concrete.

Think this shows Bo's growth as a human being well. Yes, to make it as a Hollywood professional is unlikely and requires luck and/or connections and wealth. But also, yes, staying home in Ohio and making your masterpieces on a shoestring budget is equally creative!

Conan's slam made me laugh the most.

That Conan table slap edit felt very Eric Andre-esque

That was a little kid. Conan asked an ambiguous question. Funny but not the same.

Let's be real. It takes mostly luck, being in the right place in the right time, and other aspects that you can't control to be successful.

Can't remember where I've seen this guy.

Wait... I remember now. He was in one of key and Peele sketches. The Acapella one.

Getting into Hollywood is very hard even when you get your big break so feels bad for aspiring american filmmakers.

there's some life of Brian "he's saying ____" stuff going on in these comments.

we’re all dead in 100 years. Do what gets a response out of you. Life’s too quick for anything else.

Both statements are true. You must live in the real world and face the hard truth that one in a million gets to become a famous artist, yet you can have a happy and successful life without getting big in Hollywood. I mean everyone would love to be the greatest artist of his generation, but 99% of people have to get a "real job" and this doesn't mean that their life is bad at all. At the same time nothing should stop you from persuing your passion, even if you do it only in your free time. You can be happy to do what you love even if you do it on the weekends and not as your main job. After all it's called passion for a reason, you don't necessarily need to make your passion your job. Also, there's plenty of people that finally became famous, but who were doing completely different jobs in the meantime
