KS18XL vs MSX Range Test

I take the KS18XL for an extended 57+ mile ride to see how it compares to the MSX on the identical route.

These are all of the items used in my pursuit of fun on EUCs. I own all of these and use them.

My Wheels:
I own a Mten3, MCM5, KS14S, ACM2, Tesla, MSuper, MSX, Z10 and Monster.

If any of these links are broken, check my very last video (if you're looking at an old video). I try and use the most current information with every new video I upload. Let me know if a link doesn't work, thanks :-)

Another thought for you. Power usage is a square function of speed (F=mv^2), (Power =F/time), so the slower you go, theoretically the longer the range. It would be interesting to do 3 studies of range (if you want a long distance experiment!). Try different average speeds (eg, 10, 15, 20 mph) and see what the battery capacity is at the end of your range tests. Lets say a 20 mile run is long enough. From this you could produce a spreadsheet and do a graph using a binomial fit (excel has all these tools built in). That would effectively give you a range vs speed graph for your mass. You would also be able to work out speed vs power too. Once I get proficient enough and find a trail that is mostly empty I might have a go at this too. I'm sure the EUC community would really appreciate this info.

Martin, you motivated me to get my Inmotion V10F. Thank you!

Amazing and kudos for doing all these range tests. Glad you are doing it and not me. I don't know how you can ride for so long!

Man Marty I’m jealous you have so many amazing rides down there in so cal. I have got to go check out some of these beautiful rides. Keep on letting us live vicariously through you. :)

Wow. Beautiful place to ride . I ordered my first unicycle gotway Tesla from ewheels. Suppose to get it Tuesday. Excited to get it. I ride a regular unicycle. Maybe that will help with the learning curve. I'm from massachusetts. We have allot of bike paths. Can go down to cape cod where they have miles of trails. I know what I'm doing this summer. We'll take care. Keep riding. Steve!!!

Great ride video! I was going to ask for links to your safety gear, but I just discovered you that you listed everything!!! Nice! Many thanks.

I will probably watch this again. As well as some of your other range test on other wheels. As far as road protection, I’ve been upgrading piece by piece. Cycle Gear is a great place to find cheaper gear if you’re on a budget. And if I shell out $2150 on the 18XL, I’ll certainly be looking to curb other cost while trying to find hip protection against hitting a curb. Lol Another very impressive and well done video Marty. Thanks so much!

Great long range test! Still waiting for my XL that should have been delivered around Christmas. But right now I'm just hoping it will arrive before summer. :/

FYI Marty, I've found that my microphone picks up the Switchmode power electronics frequency which is 8 KHz on my MSX. In your audio/video editing you can put a notch filter at that exact frequency and it removes the annoying high frequency noise in the audio. I use Reaper as my DAW to do the audio and if you look in the FFT analyzer you will see a constant peak at around 8KHz. Just though this might help.I suspect all wheels will have this until they figure a different way of doing power control.

If KS took over and started to lead the performance race GW has been doing I would switch in a heart beat to team KS, I get that they need to catch a broader customer base and not just cater to us speed possessed people like myself, but honestly I have no problem with Gotway's last 80% warning that is my cornerstone and ultimate guide, til full redundancy can be had at least.

Good stuff Marty, thanks.

The wheellog app is doing an „average“ for all wheels. Actually KS has defined the battery voltage especially for the 18L/XL....so only the KS app gives the percentage defined by KS. Happy you finaly see that some claims about „good performance“ havent been that wrong :-)

What i can say also: you wont even get any speed problems on lower battery...BUT: What it dont likes is heavy accelerations on low, very battery! Then it will tiltback because of eventual dangerous voltage drop. Other than that the 18XL/L is a „efficiencie EUC“ like the 14S is :-)

Thank you for the detailed analysis and the description of hear you use.

Question: how many bags can you wear while on am EUC? I cant do long rides without a bag of food water. Emergency supplies.

Marty, I’m a big guy 6 4” 230-235lb. I’ve been looking at KS18XL and KS16X. I’ve had mixed recommendations. Some people at ewheels say 16x and others 18XL. evX in his review said, under 200lb 16x and over 18XL. More seem to lean towards 18XL. Plus ewheel says it’s a more mature wheel. I’m not going to do off road except for dirt trails. Mostly paved. I’ve heard it’s a good all around wheel. My plan is to put it in my Gyroplane in the back seat so I can explore around when I fly into different airports. Any thoughts from your experience. Would the Tesla work for my weight. Little smaller to carry. First wheel but have ridden friends wheel and ride other electric stuff. Thanks

Why don't I see the stick in the video ? I can see the shadow but I can't actually see the stick ?

That looks like a really fun day ride. What route was it - would love to do a group ride with you sometime! Got to say, smart man for the armour, I've just received mine. Makes you look bad ass too !! 😁

Hey awesome vlog! I am looking for a reliable, safe, long term and fun wheel. I'm looking at the KingSong18xl but also at the Tesla, MSX, in motion V10F or Z. Would you recommend this KingSong over the others? And does it have any downsides to it?? I would really appreciate any helpful info.
