Paul is the one who wrote the middle section of the song; the part that he sings. It was a totally separate song he was working on that he was having trouble finishing. George (Martin) suggested that it be added to the middle of John’s song. Then Martin came out with using a orchestra to segue the songs together. It really is a brilliant piece of music!!!

Becks passing has hit me harder than any other guitarist, his stand-alone style & contributions to music effected my young mind/ears in "72"...I didn't even know he was in the Yard birds until I was maybe 22 or so...I never stopped following Jeff's music. Of course being only one of millions that have enjoyed listening to his creative releases throughout the decades I believe its safe to say, Jeff Beck you are missed!!! However your music lives on😊.

Jeff was nominated twice for a Grammy Award for his instrumental performance of “A Day In A Life”. He was nominated in the Best Pop Instrumental category in 1999 for his studio version of the song off of the George Martin tribute album; Jeff did not win. In 2009 Jeff was nominated in the Best Rock Instrumental category for his live version of the song. This time Jeff won. Jeff Beck was always best experienced live/in concert. He just seemed be able to raise his level of playing to a higher degree. I saw him 11 times over 5 decades and can attest to this. I always left his shows with my jaw dragging on the ground. RIP Jeff Beck
