Spent the last 30 minutes watching a random guy on the internet fix his lawn over the last couple months. It was fascinating. Highly recommend. 10/10

Just a side note. If you are “back” lapping you should run the reel in reverse when you are putting the lapping compound on, otherwise you are at risk of dulling your blades.

I am a professional landscaper and this series has been very enjoyable to watch. Congrats on your lawn!

Wanted to thank you for your videos my dude! I got this old handmower and tried your sharpening and tightening tips. Worked like a charm! Special thanks to the way its supposed to sound, that really helped a lot!

In the 60s and 70s we had a King O Lawn reel mower like that it was self-propelled and I loved it.

That is a gorgeous lawnmower with a real nice cut. I imagine we don't use the round style blade for some safety reason, or perhaps it wouldnt handle twigs well lol. But for a manicured lawn, that cuts fantastic

I need to get new magneto for my old school reel mower has not ran in a decade and need some work. I had it running last year but broke recoil then fixed it n thats when lost all spark so going to retrace the plug wire and c whats going on. I do lawn care so it would b pretty nice to use. Mine so old it has the old metal basket on front. Self propelled. Used to have s sickle more just like it but blue, not red like my reel mower

Toro GTS 21” mowers especially from the 90’s to 2000 are some of the best mowers to finely cut the grass and leaves into fine particles so that ya don’t need to bag .
I stopped bagging grass clippings over 25 years ago .

I found the best way of achieving a tight blade/bed knife tolerance is to let both corrode. This fills the gap completely, and then when you knock off the interference corrosion, its absolutely as tight a gap as can be accomplished. The raggedy edges act like a serrations and 'grip' the grass blades.
I got the cleanest grass cuts and paper shear tests using plain ole' corrosion treatment.
Sure, you might need to use lapping or files to get new pieces into agreement, but one you've done that, corrosion is the best fine adjustment method.

A sharper blade obviously cuts better but a dull blade cut slows down the growth for some reason. At least it does when you're bushhogging

As a kid, I remember mowing my grandparent's front yard with a manual (non-motor) reel mower!

Bro… as a kid we played with the non moterized version of that, and if that thing had been better at cutting. My finger would not be with me today😅

Power reel mowers were popular in the late 50s but that horizontal shaft engine always really wanted to be on a minibike. The mowers would drive themselves into a stump or steel rod to self destruct freeing up the motor for its new life.

Man watching those grass fly through the bin was satisfying now i wonder why it was ever portrayed as a boring chore in multimedias

The local lawn mower shop back in the seventies had a home built reel mower sharpening stand that he disconnected the mowers chains and then connected his own chains to a drive motor to drive the reel while he's slathered on lapping compound and readjusted the blade

I have an almost identical reel mower to this one I haven't had it running in so many years but this makes me want to get it running again I just need to find a grass catcher like that

In our Area Golf Grass is always mulched, tho its cut maybe 2 times a week keeping it short. The mulched Grass fills and nourishes the Grass over time
