Historian Lucy Worsley explores some of the myths surrounding The Blitz. This was one of the most devastating bombing campaigns of WWII as Hitler’s Luftwaffe bombed the city of London for many months.

The common perception is that Londoners displayed unwavering solidarity that got them through the rest of the war, but the truth was far more complicated.

My brother found a world war 2 bunker under his East London acre garden for around 30 people. Lucy you are welcome to come and see it. Its under his grass tennis court. I love your programs.

I admire the British bravery and spirit. An island nation with no where to hide. As an American it bothers me that we think we won the war all by ourselves. The Brits were fighting years before we got there. In both world wars.

I've always been a fan of history but who knew it could be so much fun to learn? In all her series Lucy is just adorable. Whenever I see her name or face on a video advert, I know it'll be top drawer in every aspect.

This is difficult for me to watch as I grew up listening to my mother talk about the bombing of Glasgow where she, my father and 2 siblings lived by the Clyde. Germans coming there because of the ships. My mother's stories of running in the middle of the night with babies wrapped in blankets, hoping to make it to the bomb shelters. Like a movie..Germans shooting from planes. Coming out the the shelters to see whole blocks bombed and neighbors who didn't make it to the shelters dead. But she also took good parts, singing in the shelter, playing Whisk, sharing a candy bar. The strength of the people to make it through a horrible time.

War really brings out the worst in everyone, and for most it is selfishness

I wonder if those Anderson shelters actually offered real protection from a bomb. They look kind of sus to me.

"Keep calm and carry on" is soooo British.

You do not need to tell the British People to keep calm. But, God help you if you make them angry.

But now the meaning is completely new.

Worsley's OK. She’s a bit weird, of course, but listenable, ie, not too dangerously posh. So A-plus 👍
