Nice video Anna English...I gotta admit I have a very bad habit of saying 'how lovely' or 'very nice' or 'Yes that sounds good' or when I politely decline I say 'unfortuently no'...I learned this in manor class this...but taking notes from this video... I liked this video yes!!!!👍😅

Salve Anna!

English used to have a complex grammar similar to German, but it was siplified so the English were able to communicate with the Norse. Both Old Norse and Old German had similar lexicons to Old English (German was a bit more similar). But since the English interacted more with the Norse they prefered to make the grammar more similar to Old Norse and assimilate Old Norse words to English. By doing that they lost a bit of their West Germanic linguistic roots, but English still remained a West Germanic language (mainly because of vocabulary). That's why modern Scandinavian (North Germanic) languages are easier to learn by English speakers than German even though German has more cognates. But the most similar and easiest to learn language for English speakers to learn is a West Germanic language, that language is Dutch.

When someone comes to me, or if I am having a conversation with a group of friends, one of the things that almost always works for me is to talk about a book, the author or some specific paragraph with which it has some correspondence of the fact that they are talking about.
That makes me look very smart.
Only God and now you know that I learned to read three months ago. Spectacular job.
Greetings from Argentina.

Eye contact is my nightmare. It goes like this: At the beginning, I start talking to a person normally, then after a few seconds of eye contact, I begin feeling anxious and try to look away, and the more I talk, the more anxious I get, until I feel as if I'm going to faint. And now guess how I was able to solve this terrible problem: I simply wear sunglasses, day and night. :D
