7 words that make you sound smarter without sounding like a jerk

You can improve how you sound to those around you by adding a few words to your vocabulary. But don't go randomly searching through the dictionary. You don't want to come off sounding pretentious.

I learned most of these words in high school. By the way, "didactic" does not necessarily imply 'patronizing'. It generally means "pedagogical"; that is, related to teaching.

Idiosyncrasy is a good word but if you use it in another term (which I use more) it becomes a little more useful idiosyncratic (peculiar to an individual) use this in a sentence such as. The way the man ate his spaghetti was idiosyncratic

It's better to be smarter than just trying to sound smarter. Misusing words or contriving their use will have the opposite effect. Encouraging people to take shortcuts is a disservice.
