How to Calculate Wind Direction from Wind Components?

This video explains how to calculate wind direction if we know two wind components. The wind components are zonal (eastward positive) and meridional (northward positive). The relationship between wind direction and polar coordinate angle (azimuth) is also provided. We also calculate wind magnitude from wind components using the Pythagorean theorem.

thanks for the video! so if i have this clear, u 1 and v 1 = 225 degree, thus the wind coming from SW and wind going to NE

Such a helpful video. Thanks! A question... If you're working with wind vector anomalies, is it correct to first calculate the u and v wind anomalies to then calculate the anomalous wind vector?
