Actually needed to know this for cycling at 50... the NSEW isn't the direction the wind is blowing but the opposite x

If you have the windsock you can estimate how fast the air is moving by obserwing how many red and white rings on the sock are erect. One ring is 5 knot or 2 km/h increasement

So if you represent the wind direction on a map with an arrow pointing towards the direction of the wind, say towards the east, this wind is said to be west?! That is counter intuitive to me.
