I remember about 40 years ago when I attended an extra-curricular lecture after school about 'surface differential geometry', the lecturer introduced himself as a person who has loved maths all his life and is now teaching it to people like us. And he added 'and they pay me for it! (wonderful world)' - there's a man who is 'playing' and creating value around him as he goes.
