Great review - everything that I read about this Volvo leads me to the conclusion that the smart choice is to wait for the next iteration. The software is clearly undercooked - still a great start.

I test drove this one on my channel few months ago and to me it did the craziest understeer every time I gave it the beans in the corners. It felt super unsafe to continue driving it "sporty" which kind of defies the purpose of having a car with 400+ hp and making the chassis so undriveable. I believe it's problem was the torque distribution between rear and front motors (obviously not programmed correctly) but it felt super bad in my view if you enjoy corners and do not use your car only for shopping and taking your kids to school... What's even funnier is - if you turn off the "performance" drive mode (which takes 10 taps on the screen) it actually drives much better in the corners.

Volvo's statement is basically saying "We have no idea what why or how it happened"

Rented a Volvo V90 2023. Man the car had so many bugs it was just so frustrating. Drive wise the car was amazing!

small car for big city with narrow streets, big car for small town with wide roads. In cities with high density, it's very nice to have a small car.

Our EX40 had a similar issue three times. Power is cut, Turtle mode shows on the screen. Took several months to finally sort it out.

at 1:20:00 you enabled Calm mode which moves the speedo to the center and removes some other traffic details. you can press the 4g / signal between the driver display and the map on the right and you'll get a drop down menu that let's you toggle it.

I have an ex30+ SMER here in the UK - niggly bugs and design flaws but still love it - advice would be to wait for the 2025 spec

YES Small efficient cars! I drive the BMW i3S REX. Actually roomy feeling and I'm 6'2". Bought it in Seattle in perfect condition with 16.000 miles for $15.5k. Waiting in the ferry parking lot had 2 people call it out.

EX30 is selling well for it's price range in Brazil, it's considered the cheapest "premium brand" car available in our marked at 229k BRL or about 41k USD due to taxes. The best selling EV in Brazil sells for 20k USD.

I'd get the car just for that ability to set the Arrival Charge! So many times I want to arrive somewhere with a certain amount of extra battery so I can have enough to ride around or camp and had to use ABRP and then add the stop and time myself.

if you can try the single motor. I drove them back to back here in NL. The single motor feels a lot more nimble. My mum drives the RWD big battery one and she loves it.

@outofspec A few things you’re calling bugs are actually (maybe a little unclear) features. For example, the visualization disappearing is a toggle option controlled by the steering wheel. Also, adaptive cruise can be set to the current speed using the stalk instead of the resume button (which sets it based on the previous speed).

I used to have a Volvo V50 for some years. I bought it with 72000k on the counter. That particular Volvo was a 1600D (with PSA motor). I only had it for one week when it shut down the engine when I was accelerating from 0-70. I was really scared because this also happened out of nowhere and cars behind you don't expect you to suddenly slow down that fast (I was going a little bit uphill). After shutting off the car and restarting it, the problem was gone (for a while). It happened a second time a few days later. I took it to a workshop and the problem appeared to be caused by the diesel being too dirty and the liquid to clean it was not replaced at 60000k. It seems a bit Volvo-like to shut down the engine power just like that. It is really dangerous. The engine management system should NEVER shut down the power of the engine just like that, no matter what! That Volvo V50 was the car that caused me the most trouble of any car I ever had. When it was not having problems (also the turbo was very bad), it drove really well. I spent more than €4500 on repairs before finally selling it because I was sick of that car.

I had the XC40 Twin EV .. partly based on your review a few years ago. That was an excellent car, I'd have another (EX40). I was looking forward to the EX30 as the next lease car in July. It looks good .. but after a test drive and some controls/software issues I decided not to go with that. Instead I took delivery of one of the first Renault Scenic EV Iconics in the UK just 3 weeks ago ... much better in almost every way than the Volvo except only FWD with 220bhp ...but that is ample for road driving and way more efficient with 350 miles real world range

It’s kinda crazy how fast Volvo pushed out the ex30 It’s obvious to see it needs more work. They did the exact opposite of what polestar is doing with the polestar 3. They are making sure the PS3 is as close to perfect as possible before releasing them to the buyers. I am one, so I know. My ps3 had been sitting at a port in Vancouver Canada for around 3 weeks to a month. It’s awaiting the final big software update.
