How to restore an iPod Touch 1st Gen in 2020 (iTunes Error 1 & 5 solution)

Apple canceled the support for iPod Touch 1st gen restorings with iTunes 12. In this video I'll tell you, how you can revive that ancient device anyway!

Wow Fixing an old Ipod touch first gen for a friend would not have ever thought downgrading ITUNES would be necessary

Thank you for this video it set me on the right path and now I have a working iPod Touch.

To those with an iPod Touch 1st Gen and with firmware 1.1.5 you need to do it with iTunes 7.5 or lower (Mine worked with 7.4)

You might also need to spin a Windows XP Virtual Machine for it to install properly. Even with compatibility mode, all my installations failed.

I've been getting error code 1611 and I decided to try the same approach with an old Dell computer I had lying around and i also used an OLDER version of windows and it actually worked!

It really worked on my ipod touch 1g, the link for firmware in not working but I’ve downloaded it from another website from google and then tried the second way and it worked perfectly 👌🏻
But there’s one thing if anyone ipod last was on ios3.1.3 then he must download the same version like i did too and download the old version of itunes also
I’m so happy that my ipod got back to life again in 2024, it was locked since 2019.

Thanks so much I bought a lot of 3 of these iPods for $12 perfect condition ones but 2 had bad battery’s unfortunately but one had the connect to iTunes on it when it charged I thought I was screwed but I heard about the iTunes 11 software and it worked!

I was having the same issue with error code 5 on WIN10 64-bit with iTunes 11.01 64-bit. I used an old laptop and, loaded WIN7 32-bit and, downloaded the 1_3.1.1_7 firmware provided in the description. Worked like a champ!! Hope this helps.. If anybody does not want to do the WIN7 machine, just cancel the install when prompted to do the update from apple on WIN10. Hold the shift key down and click the restore button, then select the 1_3.1.1_7 version, it may work under WIN10. I have not tried., Good luck!
