I did this with the same conversion unit. Make sure the temp dial on the freezer is turned all the way to max to keep the compressor from short-cycling and also that the probe isn't touching anything. Mine has been running with no issues for the last three years.

Edited to add: My unit is not the same as Nate has, as I found out through this conversation below. However, it has worked flawlessly for four (not three) years so I am happy with it.

My husbands dad gave us a fridge that's about 3 years old. Beautiful stainless steel with the bottom drawer freezer. His dad got a new one and decided to bless us with their almost new old one. Our normal fridge is almost 30 years old and looks old but works great. We had the new one probably 2 weeks, and it started freezing everything. It got so cold that it broke all the freezer / fridge lines and broke the computer part that controls the temperature. We moved our old one back in the house and put the new/old busted one on the porch. Now, in order to fix it, my husband will have to replace the freezer lines and the computer 😅. His dad paid a few grand for it and loaded it upright and brought it from Oklahoma to central Arkansas where we live. 😂😂😂 All that for it to break with in 2 weeks lol.

I have seen people replace/ modify the original thermostats inside the freezer to convert them didnt know they made a setup like this to simplify it really neat.

I use one of those controllers to run a little 500w space heater in my camper. Way more accurate than the built-in "thermostats" on them. I also use a humidity sensing one to control my dehumidifier. Handy little things.

Piece of advice, my dad did this about 15 years ago and putting a tiny fan in there made a huge difference in keeping everything the same temperature inside the freezer. Before he put the fan in, the stuff at the bottom would freeze while the top would be fine, after putting the fan in he no longer had the freezing issue
