I live in the buckle of the Bible Belt that is rabid with book banning. I keep a supply of books that are routinely on Ban lists in my car (I buy a lot of them at college used books store, secondhand bookstores, yard sales, thrift stores, clearance sales, etc). I glue a label in each one identifying it as a banned book, why bigots want it banned & a link to the American Library Association website (& a request that the book be passed along or returned to the Little Free Library once they are done reading it). I use these to restock every Little Free Library I come across.
LET FREEDOM READ!!!

Tim Walz is pissed & is going to do what Bernie is doing.

In NYC you can’t get into a Tesla dealership without walking through a protest.

On that last note, I’d add rights cards to your toolkit. There are lots that have your constitutional rights on them in both English and Spanish, and some other translations floating around. I’ve been printing them out on cardstock in business card size and leaving them everywhere I go—the table at church, bulletin boards at restaurants, etc. Especially important in areas where people might be afraid to speak out and ask for help.

Rain poncho.
Because carrying a sign in one hand and an umbrella in the other is cumbersome.

Ear plugs are good to have. I find they reduce my stress levels and help me deal with the crowds--as well as protecting my hearing.

Your "I May Have Spoken Too Soon" video encouraged me to get on the 5 Calls app and get to dialing. You are making more of a difference than you know. ❤

One suggestion I have is to carry paper and pen. Depending on how dicey things get, you might want to communicate completely off the internet. Ironically, paper might be more secure than digital now.

Yup, used children's colored chalk for sidewalk messages when I was a precinct organizer in Seattle. Washed off at next rain. Other tools: whistles and cowbells to make noise at demos. MORE COWBELLS :) And if mobility-challenged, carry stylish but sturdy walking cane (like Congressman Al Green uses) -- legal for carry everywhere under ADA rules.

Been enjoying your permaculture channel for years. These new videos are equally helpful, validating and encouraging. My husband and I both work for Universities (Homesteading is our other, full-time job) and are kept up at night wondering if our grant funding for Forestry and Sustainable Materials research may go away because of the current administration's whims. It's nice to know people like you are watching, listening and acting. I know it's not easy to put yourself out there. From one creator to another, thank you.

Shout out to your kid. I'm a disaster responder with a master's in Emergency Management so I'm in the same boat. I still volunteer as a responder, but the chances of actually getting my career back on track are slim.

Love the spray chalk idea. Snacks, being hungry isn’t helpful. Make sure if you have a health condition keep something that proves that. If you are diabetic, have a heart condition, bipolar, you don’t want to be arrested without what you need. My husband has a seizure disorder and needs to keep meds with him. Keep important numbers somewhere other than your phone if you’re like me and can’t remember anyone’s numbers.

I am an autistic woman. Loud protest marches are not my thing. But I definitely can do stickers and some flyers. Thank you. I have learned so much from you, Vanessa. Now, can you teach me to knit? 😮

I'm in Columbus, Ohio, a blue haven in a very red state. We have lots of protests around here. But one of our weaknesses is our chants, which can often be clumsy and a little cringey. So, I've been working on a 'Save Democracy' hymnal. It's basically just a little flyer that I'm going to print out and pass out at protests. It has all sorts of succinct little chants to help big crowds express a unified, clear message, like "Hey, Hey, Hell No! Donald Trump is Putin's Hoe!" And "Who is All-American? We are All-American! Who is un-American? Elon Musk is un-American!" Stuff like that. That's one of the ways I'm trying to create good trouble. So, if anyone has any good chants, post them here! Ohio needs you!

Hi, I just called Schumer’s office IN Washington DC at 11:19am PST. I got right through to his voicemail. I was shocked. Is NO ONE calling? Thank you from another Oregonian ( of 6 yrs). Also thanks for standing up for Boomers. We’re pissed and fighting for our grandkids. Keep up the good work.

Angela. I'm so sorry to hear about how these cuts and bs policies have affected your daughter. Mine is 26, lives in Portland (Woodstock) just graduated with her masters in laser physics in the top of her class. She has been seriously job hunting for months now.
She's found nothing. Nothing.
I said to her maybe you should just go for your PhD. She said she can't because they've taken all the research money that would have gone to fund those research programs. I feel so bad she's worked diligently for years to get this degree. At this point she is searching for anything at all. The job market is now flooded. Rent is skyhigh, her student loan payments are several hundred dollars a month... you know.
She's a happy spirit, but is becoming so despondent. This is brutally unfair.
They should not be suffering this way.
When I continue to fight, I know that there are 100, 000s of stories just like this.
When I fight...when I protest, these young people are always in my heart.
Our daughters deserve the rights we had...at very least.

So glad you mentioned chalk spray paint! Stencils are easy to make with an exacto knife and cardboard or salvaged plastic sheets. Also - this is a great time to connect with folks making & distributing zines - they can be a great resource for sharing suppressed stories and ideas and can build creative momentum! 🎨

Cooking spray is better than leaving your finger prints on a tesla truck .

Instead of double-sided tape, get one-sided Scotch Brand Magic tape. Attach the ends of the tape strip to form a circle with the sticky side out. Teachers have used Magic tape for decades. It doesn't leave a residue or peel off paint.
