@Dr. G, could you do a video on differences in psychopaths vs. sociopaths? I would love your professional insights on this topic. I know that one is born and one is made.
Thank you for the great content!

Love your explanations. Very interesting and clearly defined. I have anti social people within the family. I can’t understand how they can have no empathy as I’m an empath. I try to learn all I can about them so as to prevent becoming victimized again by these kind of people. And I think they are all around us. Sadly enough. More videos please! You explain things so clearly! Thank you!

I thought that people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder had no real empathy either. They have cognitive empathy. I saw that in my mother. Maybe she just didn’t care about me or actually hated me so she showed none. It was very hard for me to understand as an empath but I finally got it.

Thank you for this topic. I have always been fascinated with this subject. I took a few psychology courses as part of my undergraduate degree. One of my favorite courses was Developmental Psychology especially studies regarding mother child bonding. My mother had undifferentiated schizophrenia. She born in 1927 and sadly it wasn't until the end of her life when more was understood about her illness and medications always changed. Anyway, the subject of mental illness and differences in brain structure deeply interest me. I also have major depression so I know that so many disorders (mood, etc) have multiple factors that play a part. I even have some compassion for someone born with psychopathy even though they can do so much harm.

I wish more people understood this. We have generations of people like this in our family but everyone blames the parents. 😢

Dear Dr. G, I love your channel! I remember hearing an interview with someone, I can't remember her name, but she is a Neuroscientist and conducted research regarding psychopaths, the amygdala, and altruism. She spoke about something very interesting regarding the amygdala being structurally smaller than average in psychopathy, and it (the amygdala) being structurally larger than average in people who show exceptional altruism. Altruism in this case meaning going above and beyond. Like a person who gives one of their kidneys to a complete stranger, or people who risk their lives to save others in extreme circumstances, for instance. She also spoke about interviews that were conducted as part of the research study. A question that was asked of the "altruistic group" was; "why did you donate your kidney to a complete stranger?" The answer they gave across the board was something along the lines of; "my life is not more special or important than the lives of others, so why would I be more deserving of functioning kidneys than another person, " or something to that affect. I wish I could remember this interview because it was fascinating, but I heard it while traveling and was unable to write down the info. Do you know the research study I'm referring to? Thank you for the fascinating material you post! 🙂

About the Amygdala - one time I was hiking in Illlinois' Starved Rock State Park. One of my feet was in midair, and I looked down and saw that I was about to step on a big snake which was sunning. It seemed like automatically, my foot stopped falling, I pivoted 180 degrees, and I was gone in a flash back down the trail. Something else, "anti-social" does not mean someone who wants to be a hermit, it means "anti-society", someone who has zero respect for society's rules and accepted behavior, yes?!! It seems to me that they get no emotional satisfaction, from connecting with others in a positive way. To me, it is so weird, that it is somewhat funny. Maybe that is my schadenfreude. Ha!

I experienced a Narcissistic Psychopath in a relationship about 4 years ago. It was the worst experience I've ever been through and I'm still healing from it. PTSD and Betrayal Trauma take awhile to heal. I'd love to hear you speak about Betrayal Trauma, it would help so many.

I just can’t even understand living without empathy. It seems like it is the very essence of life.

Very interesting and insightful commentary. I'd like to know your views about the Kohberger and Laundrie cases .

Very good presentation. I really have learned a lot, especially that psychopaths are genetically different and moreover that their brains are not properly engaged or wired - with resulting lack of empathy and remorse.

Can psychopaths love others? Are psychopaths capable of self-discovery and of behaving normally?
I always wonder if known psychopaths could have altered their trajectories...or if they are also victims of circumstance.
Do you believe in punishment or rehabilitation, if a psychiatric condition is at play?

Almost forgot something, could you make a video about being in a relationship with Psychopaths? I am asked constantly about how could I stay with him, how could I put up with the mind games, etc. People that have never experienced a relationship with these people never understand.

What about Ed Kemper, he planned meticulously before his murders? The low scores he got on the Hare scale were no doubt him manipulating the personal answers section given his history at atascadero. Score was either 21 or 26 depending on which article you read. In Britain the scores for Psychopathy are rated lower in the US, I think 25 or 26. As you can guess I too am waiting for your Kemper video. Hello from rainy London:(

What’s the actual difference between a psychopath and a sociopath? I’ve always though psychopaths are born that way and sociopaths are made that way through life experiences.
