IMO, one of the most beautiful songs ever… the lyrics are poignant and evocative. We were blessed to have John Hartford write this song, and doubly blessed to have Glen Campbell record it. Glen’s style and unmistakable voice made it a forever classic. RIP, both John and Glen.

The man wants to be free of commitments, and doesn't want to be tied down.. He is a wanderer and would love to explore the world and travel. Life is a journey.. Someone in his life loves him unconditionally, loves him always whether he's near or far.. And he knows, he will be accepted anytime he comes back, whether he returns physically or by imagination.. That person touched his heart but he is a free spirit and he will wander and roam.. And yet, this object of his affection shall always be in his memory, and will forever be gentle on his mind..

This is what i found ..bt its gr8

One the most beautiful song I have ever heard.
Made me cry the first time,
I heard it. I can see what he is singing about.

I attended a Blue Grass Festival in WVA a long while and Glen Campbell and John Hartford played this masterpiece. When both sang and played together the crowd just quietly listened to the end, then a standing ovation. I will never forget that day, Glen Campbell and John Hartford. Goddamm why musical icons have to die!?!?! I imagine if there is a heaven, our most favorite musicians will play and sing for eternity to those fortunate enough to make the journey upstairs. Peace.

Nothing like knowing a fellow free spirit that enjoys the heartfelt unconditional love of another there is somehow a feeling of completeness within it

A wonderful song. I remember when he passed, john mayor took the time to cover it at his concert. He told the crowd "he hoped to do it with more heart than precision". Those fans, many not born before this song was released, listened quietly. And he did it justice.

I grew up listening to this song. Glen Campbell recorded it when I was 2 months past my 10th year. He was 1 month into his 31st.
It started going through my head all of a sudden when I woke up yesterday morning. (On Friday the 13th, if you must know.) Today,
more than 57 years later, it still causes tears to stain my face.

Poignant song about freedom. A man living as he was intended, to roam around, experience life as it happens outdoors, like our ancestors lived for hundreds of thousands of years...
