Written by John Hartford, which won two 1968 Grammy Awards. Hartford himself won the award for Best Folk Performance. The other award, Best Country & Western Solo Vocal Performance, Male, went to Glen Campbell for his version of Hartford's song. It was released in June 1967 as the only single from the album of the same name and reached # 30. It was re-released in July 1968 to more success. Glen Campbell's version has received over 5 million plays on the radio. Campbell used "Gentle on My Mind" as the theme to his television variety show, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour between 1969 and 1972. However, Dean Martin's version, recorded in 1968, was more successful in terms of chart-position.

Autumn of my senior year, 1963/1964. Didn’t stay on the charts nearly long enough!

I was born in 67, an i remember my father did listen to this album. From the age of 5 it was my favorite song. Now 42 years later i still get the same feeling when i listen to the song - it's amazing.

Glen did a series for BBC television in London back in the mid to late seventies. I had heard of him and happened to be walking past the BBC Bush Theater when I saw that he was appearing. I think he did six shows and I was able to attend all but one of them. He was amazing! Gentle On My Mind was one of my favorite songs but he was outstanding on so many. When he played the bagpipes on Amazing Grace, the theater exploded with tears and applause. He was a wonderful entertainer.

If millennials don't know songs like this one, or any of the of the music of the 60's, 70's, it's the fault of the parents! My kids (37 & 28) listened to my music their entire lives! The stereo was always on, with me playing records, cassettes, cds or the radio. Each generation is influenced in part by the one before. My mom had some records from Broadway musicals and I played them endlessly.
You can't teach a child about opera unless you play opera records. You can't expect a kid to know rock-roll if he/she never hears it at home. The next two options are at a friend's or neighbor's home.

It's better than the remastered version. More authenticity.
