The 2023 SuperMotocross Playoffs are officially underway and the first race did not disappoint. Chase Sexton and Jo Shimoda came out victorious and, for the first time in 574 days, the Lawrence brothers left a race without a podium trophy... Yep, it's true, either Jett, Hunter, or both of them have scored podium finishes at every race in almost two full seasons, spanning all the way back to the 2022 Anaheim 3 Supercross.

In This Week in MXA, episode 142, presented by O'Neal Racing, Josh Mosiman reviews the Charlotte SMX race and previews the upcoming Chicago SuperMotocross Playoff race. In this video, we also look ahead to this weekend's 2023 Chicago SuperMotocross Playoff race at the Chicagoland Speedway, and Josh shares some footage from the Rawrr Mantis intro, as well as our 2023 KTM 65SX race bike build video from Mammoth.

I was surprised with how well the first SMX turned out. I was extremely skeptical about a couple things....first was the split start, thinking the right side (left turn) had an advantage being able to use the rear brake but it seemed fairly even during the events, I also could not believe how even the split lanes worked out, very rarely works out so well. Pretty impressive, excited for the next two rounds!

That start seems to be wayyy safer then a traditional.. especially with only 20 guys… and the lines don’t merge until your already going straight

A great and memorable day of racing! The 65's were awesome! Unbelievable that Bubba can just Stammer and speak about 5 different things at once!

As a fan of Moto since the late 70’s (and SX less&less over the years) I was pleasantly surprised how good the track and racing was @ Charlotte👍🏻👍🏻
Super stoked my Son and I are attending Joliet! We thought the last one was good there when McGrath& Fonseca won in a Moto rich part of the country.

25-50-75 points is kind of like if the NBA or MLB made some playoff series games count more than others. Should've been 25-25-25.

Kind of got me next up what suspension should I run? Supercross or motocross it’s a tough decision. One will beat the hell out of you and the other will let the others beat the hell out of you. I don’t know if I’ve ever been in a situation that extreme . thank you for your insight and video. I appreciate it very much. Keep them coming.

Webb wouldn't blame the bike... MAYBE, , , , it wasn't the last bike either.

Should be three 30 minute motos. Lets see who's really putting in the work.

Looked like in moto 1 they treated the 18 like just another rider.

Those 65s were very impressive. Will they be at all 3 races?
