Jason Stanley, Professor of Philosophy and author of ‘How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them’ has announced he’s leaving Yale to accept a position at the University of Toronto citing the Trump administration's recent moves against free speech.

I’m from China. And when I saw the video of a few people kidnapping an international student on the street, I felt the same fear about the situation in US as when I was in China. Before this year, I only felt anger and frustration about the whole thing, never fear. Trust me your country is in danger, and you need to stand up and fight for it right now! Reading through the comments, I began to cry. Being older and a new grandmother, I was so excited to retire last year after 45 years in the corporate world. I am American. Watching the trump rallies over the course of the last 18 months, I never thought in my wildest dreams he would get re-elected. On election eve, my phone blew up. All of my friends were very upset. Fast forward to now, it has become very quiet. I bought a pin to wear on my lapel that is anti-trump and I wear it proudly. I will not be silent. April 5th I am participating in my second anti-trump rally. I am protesting for my grandbabies!!!

Canada is a refuge. We were during the Vietnam War, Civil War, and Gander Newfoundland during 9/11. Welcome to our American brothers and sisters, especially those who believe in rights and freedoms for all and supports our public systems.

I'm a New Zealander who has lived in the US in the past. It is heart-breaking to watch it fall to fascism in real time. It's like watching a train crash, I can't tear my eyes away. I really hope that Americans can fight back and reclaim their democracy, but seeing the universities all capitulate so quickly makes my heart sink.

Jason Stanley is leaving because, having studied fascism so extensively, he knows exactly what’s coming.

I read his book a couple of years ago.
