Is it just me or every single “realistic” romance is about how people aren’t happy together? No wonder we love unrealistic romance!! 😀

"Just because she likes the same bizarro crap as you, doesn't make her your soulmate." A very valid statement, and words that I live by whenever getting to know a crush! 😉♥️

"Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up."
Neil Gaiman, The Kindly Ones (The Sandman, #9)

This is a great list. Celeste and Jesse Forever affected me particularly, because my husband and I got married young. We were having issues similar to the film, and I thought about leaving because it seemed like things couldn't be fixed. I ultimately didn't, because we love one another and it was worth saving. My heart breaks every time I watch it, because I hate to think that I could have thrown away a life with my best friend and would have to see him move on with someone else because I gave up. Blue Valentine reminded me of my parents, so that one really gets to me as well. They managed to work things out, which makes me really proud of them. Also, I was surprised by how much I loved The Big Sick.

I watched La La Land with my sister a couple of years ago for the first time. I was shocked and sad over the ending. But I also admired how it went off the whole “happily ever after” cliche like many movies like it do. It’s a really good and realistic story that has beautiful sets, costumes and songs.

I knew it. Revolutionary Road and Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind would be here. Kate is amazing in both movies.

Marriage story was a bit too real and relatable.

Binging these movies would be a very depressing way to spend a weekend....wheres the popcorn and tissues?

I think the Before Sunrise series as a trilogy in it's entirety is fairly relatable and realistic as it shows different common phases of most relationships and marriages.
Edit: You made it #1!!! Thankyou and wonderful choice!!

Marriage story is so realistic that when I watched it with my mum I could see her divorce ptsd so clearly I wanted to remove it and give her space to breathe

“The Way We Were” starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford is the best realistic romance of all time (in Kanye West voice 🗣🗣🗣)

500 Days of Summer is so cute and adorable but yes it is relatable. I really liked it and like La La Land liked how realistic it was. One of the few movies where there’s a one-sides love and they don’t miraculously end up together in the end.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone have the same wonderful chemistry that Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan did. I love watching them together!

Incredibly real is the movie Last Night (2010), with Keira Knightley, Guillaume Canet, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes.

All the more reason why staying single is the best: these movies are, for me, a constant reminder that relationships are complicating, messy and downright heartbreaking.

I just can’t acknowledge anything Woody Allen has done anymore.
