I trained in 150/152s, and eventually bought a 172. I had tried a rental, and the extra space it gives you was just hands down better. Also, in he 152 we were constantly bumping up against the useful load with my instructor and I.

Thank you for showing the size of the planes by standing next to them! Great video!

When I started the 150/152 was $14-$28 wet and a 172 was about $36...Big difference back then.
A beat up rental 172 going for $125 now.

Nice video and very well done. I've always wanted a comparison of the two aircraft and I'm glad that you did it.

In my very limited experience as a student pilot I'd say the biggest difference was the climb rate. The 150 I was flying had trouble gaining altitude without overheating in the CA summer. The 172 went up with no trouble. So if you want to fly high the 172 will definitely get you there faster and with less effort.

I want to point out that the avionics differences only apply to these specific aircraft. Both aircraft could have come from the factory with ILS or without it. Also, almost every 172 and all 150/152 models are old enough that avionics in any particular airplane is likely to have been modified since initial delivery. For beginning students, it doesn’t really matter if an aircraft is ILS equipped, but any ab initio training airplane should have, at least, one Nav/Com radio and a VOR indicator as demonstrating VOR proficiency is requred for VFR pilots on their check ride.

Having said that, this is a good comparison of the the two models.

Does the c172 have an aerobatic variant or only the c152?

I own a 150, which I enjoy because I usually fly alone, am short, and am in no particular hurry. That being said, a 172 is a significantly more useful aircraft for GA with much better speed, better gross, and better range for the 33% higher fuel usage rate.

The 172R has FOUR drain points in EACH Wing Tank ! Plus two drain ports under the engine . A real pain in the butt .

Honestly I favour the 152 but I think the 172 has more use such as fitting more load and better performance

I prefer the Cherokee Warrior because the ground effect makes landing so easy.

"I'm 6' and this is me standing next to the plane." Me at 5' 5": At least I won't bump my head on the wing.

The Skyhawk. A little more soup. 2 extra seats, a little more range. Cruise up to 125kts. Plus a little more shoulder room to boot.

HEY! Who told you to be so tall? I'm 5'10", and I fit the 152 just fine.
