Apple's New M4 Pro Mac Mini Impressions & Benchmarks!

Apple launched the new Mac mini, iMac, and MacBook Pro models with M4 chips today, and because the ‌Mac mini‌ is the only one of the machines that got a design update, we thought we'd check it out to see how it compares to the prior version.

The 2024 version of the ‌Mac mini‌ is much smaller than the previous M2 model, so it takes up less space on a desktop. It's 5 by 5 inches, down from 7.75 by 7.75 inches, and you can really see a difference when they're side-by-side. There were rumors that the ‌Mac mini‌ could be as small as the Apple TV, but it's not that small.

Based on my experience yesterday with the base model, I don’t even see the need to pay more than double for the pro. I’m a graphic designer and photographer, and I process a lot of high-res raw images, and this thing cut through them like butter. I was amazed.

I like the power button on the bottom. You can’t accidentally turn it off.

I’d just place it upside down. Power button is then in the right place. Doubt it would negatively affect cooling.

I am about to upgrade my iMac 27" end of 2013 to a Mac Mini M4 BUT I do not plan to buy an Apple studio display.
I think it will be worthwhile to have a few advice on which 27" or 32" display to purchase and ALSO advise on webcams for facetime calls
Of course the Apple displays are the way to go, but I am not planning to spend this amount money.

I press the power button on my 2020 Mac Mini a few times a year. Non-issue.

For your testing. Can you turn off background rendering in FCPx and scrub the timeline on a multicam clip. I prefer to not let FCPx background render on my M1 Max and I want to know if that machine can duplicate

I am going to upgrade from an M1 mini to the M4 Pro mini. I have had Bluetooth issues with my magic trackpad and keyboard. Because of the small size I am wondering what the noise level is normally and under stress. Also, how are the speakers?
