Normal sudoku rules apply. Adjacent cells cannot contain consecutive digits. A clue outside the grid indicates the sum of the digits along that diagonal path. Cells separated by a black dot are in the ratio 1:2.

At University of Waterloo, they celebrate three Pi Days: March 14 (3.14), July 22 (22 /7), and Nov 10 or 9 on a leap year (the 314th day of the year).

I like 'miracle' sudoku puzzles because perseverance is always rewarded - the question is just how much perseverance is required! There are many nice ones in your Miracle Sudoku app, as you pointed out, Mark. The simplicity of the rule set does not create a simplistic puzzle at all, and that is something that I admire. Thanks for featuring this on non-pi day (though I celebrate "Pie Day" with friends on the Wednesday before American Thanksgiving - next week - when we make sweet pies for dessert for the Thanksgiving Day feast, and then eat pizza with our friends and many hangers-on for supper).

Both setting and solving this beautiful beast requires boatloads of imagination and commitment.
This solve path is full of tricky and peculiar but beautiful steps, starting from the interaction between the digit *2* and the *22* diagonal in *box 2.*
It goes way beyond common tricks like "chaperoning" consecutive candidates.
I am impressed by *Mark's* speed and perfect technique.
There is a lot to learn in this video.

My first ever non GAS CTC solve. Embarrassed to say how long it took (90 min), but I got there..Thankyou James🎉

I had assumed 'adjacent' digits would include diagonals, but it's only 'orthogonally adjacent'.

I finished in 20:39 minutes. When I first started doing non-consecutive sudokus, it felt like the hardest thing as I struggled to scan and place digit. However, I must have improved since then, because this one felt like a breeze. I think my favorite part was the 22 diagonal clue and asking if 2 could go in r2c4. This forces a 5 and a 6 on the 22 diagonal. This makes the total in box 6 have to add up to 5, s o it has to be a 2 and a 3. This finally breaks it as there is nowhere for 4 in box 6. How cool is that?! The rest went just as well. As always, it feels good to beat Mark's time. Great Puzzle!

My favorite approximation of pi: write the first three odd digits twice: 113355. Split into 2 3-digit numbers and divide bigger by smaller: 355/113 = 3.1415929… 😄

Felt rather unfamiliar with Once I got more familiar with it, I got up to speed. Then I hit a typical snag. Squinted my eyes, looked and eventually found the impossibilities. Liked how "helpful" the 7 diagonal and the 3 black dot were at the start. Took about 51 minutes to solve.

What a glorious puzzle and, once the diagonal was worked out, satisfyingly smooth solve.

It took a while for the rusty gears in my brain to shift into the appropriate alignment, but 45 minutes and 2 restarts later, I got it!

14:00 After placing 2 at the top of the diagonal, I filled out the digits. Surprisingly, I used parity to resolve the 27 cell in block 6.
14:40 Do what you're known for on the diagonal. It doesn't quite solve the diagonal, it makes it a lot simpler. You get one cell with even digits, one cell with odd digits, and a 27 cell. Resolve the latter, and we know the sum of the remaining two cells.

I usually struggle with the non-consecutive constraint... and this was no exception! 😄 Still not sure how I made it through in just 23:38 (conflict checker off), but thanks to James for a cool (if a bit brutal) puzzle!

This took me a long time to solve. Seeing the length of the video, I assumed there was some clever principle I'd overlooked, but nope — Mark's just far far better than I am at this sort of "whittle down the possibilities" sudoku. Brilliant construction, though.

Q2: Can you do this for another channel?
A2: I've been thinking about that and wrote some code to make that possible. Let me know which channel you think would be a good fit!

With the short video time and the easy start I thought this would be an "easy" puzzle. But I soon got stuck and had to watch Mark getting the 2 in box 2. But after that I could finish on my own, even though it took a bit over an hour.
