How to Water Venus Flytraps

After a decade of hearing this question in the flytrap hobby I decided to try my best to explain how to water this plant. It's very simple- They DON'T need to stand in water, as long as the substrate they are in stays evenly moist. You can sit them in shallow water during hot and sunny weather, and leave them free draining in wetter or colder seasons. It's really not very complicated, just think of their requirement as a houseplant that needs to be slightly more moist at all times.

Great video! I have had a VFT plant for ten years no and it's still doing quite well. I notice dehumidified water works well.

Liked and subscribed! Thanks for the info! I’m from southeastern NC where the majority of carnivorous plants in the country are native; grew up with many in my environment but this is my first attempt at growing several different species in pots/planters. Thanks again, and “I’ll be back!” Get the pun there? 😉✌🏼

Alright, I’m a new subscriber, just stumbled across your channel, I’m going to give it a shot. Great to see a younger person talking plants. You seem very knowledgeable, I hope to use some of your advice here in zone 8 in Florida. Just ordered two Venus Traps, I currently have bell peppers, jalapeños, Japanese maples(blood good), mandevillas, pansies and poinsettias on my back porch and they are thriving now, before the summer heat and humidity. Will be looking for the next video. Morning sun, afternoon shade.

Brand new to VFT. Recieving my first soon. In South Jersey. One of my questions is what if there are days of heavy rain in summer? Should I move them under shelter or let them drain on their own?

Thank you. My daughter wants a Venus fly trap. I needed to know. Question > Would it be better since we live in California to have a green house?

Excellent video as always thanks Liguus! I'm in an apartment in a big city so I have mine under grow lights and they've always got about half an inch or less of water in their trays. I haven't had any root rot issues yet.

Glad I found you channel. Yesterday I found a Carnivorous Plant Terrarium at Lowe's that came with a single plastic pot that had both a dormant Venus Fly trap and a Dormant Pitcher plant. I was wondering if it was actually ok to plant both of them in the same pot as the instructions suggest or would it be better to plant them in separate pots? Also, is now a good time of year to even try and grow these plants, or should I wait til it warms up?

I have a question, i watered a venus flytrap with boiled tap water 2 days because i didn't have distilled water and the soil was very dry, i did that after a repotting. Is there a problem if i did that but i continuead watering it with normal distilled water or is the plant in danger?

My plantlings do not stand up like yours! They lay flat atop the wet soil and end up turning black. The plant store repotted it so it cannot sit in water in a tray. Also, can it be watered with filtered tap water? The plant store was not very helpful and didn’t instruct me on the water type.

Mine is wilting, I bought it a day ago and kept in water tray. Should I put it in sunlight to revive?

(Outside placement) If it rains, should I move it to shelter or is it fine to just leave it there?
