PAT METHENY
Patrick Bruce "Pat" Metheny (born August 12, 1954) is an American jazz guitarist and composer.
One of the most successful and critically acclaimed jazz musicians to come to prominence in the 1970s and '80s, he is the leader of the Pat Metheny Group and is also involved in duets, solo works and other side projects. His style incorporates elements of progressive and contemporary jazz, post-bop, latin jazz and jazz fusion.

THE METROPOLE ORCHESTRA
The Metropole Orchestra (or Metropole Orkest) is a jazz and pop orchestra based in the Netherlands, and is the largest full time ensemble of its kind in the world. A hybrid orchestra, it is a combination of jazz big band and symphony orchestra. Comprising 52 musicians, it is versatile across many musical forms, and is equipped with a "double rhythm section" - one for pop and rock, and one for jazz based music.
It was founded in 1945 by Dolf van der Linden at the urging of officials from Netherlands Public Broadcasting, which manages and subsidizes the orchestra. The name of the group was suggested by one of the musicians. Dolf van der Linden led the ensemble for 35 years until he stepped down in 1980. He was replaced by Rogier van Otterloo, who led the group until his sudden death in 1988. Dick Bakker held the baton until 1995 when the current conductor, Vince Mendoza, took over.
The orchestra is a regular feature at the North Sea Jazz festival and the yearly Holland Festival along with many TV and radio programs broadcast to millions. The ever-growing Dutch film and television industry relies heavily on the Metropole Orchestra for its film scores. Since 2005 the Metropole is under the baton of its Chief, four-time Grammy Award winner Vince Mendoza, and can be seen frequenting the concert stage, in festivals and on recordings in the Netherlands as well as internationally.

NORTH SEA JAZZ FESTIVAL
The North Sea Jazz Festival is an annual jazz festival held each second weekend of July in the Netherlands at the Ahoy venue. It used to be in The Hague but since 2006 it has been held in Rotterdam. This is because the Statenhal where the festival was held before was demolished in 2006.

Wow, this is the fastest I've heard him play this song. Greatest composer on the planet.

As a Dutchman I'm very proud of the incredible Metropole Orchestra and of the wonderful contribution of singer/composer Fay Lovsky. This is what you call 'a Dutch treat'!

Great performance especially Fay Lovsky. Metheny is my number one influence as a composer.

Watching these sessions with this orchestra bring something fresh and new to these great tracks. Still utterly thrilling after all these years, thanks so much for posting

5:26 is so compelling. Chills every time. Here it is pretty stripped down revealing it must be the harmonic progression and rhythmic anticipations of the composition that give it so much juice. And Pat's synth solo at 6:52 is still so fresh and full of new-born life even after all these years of him playing this tune.

I was always knocked out to hear the Pat Metheny group play this piece but the Metropole Orchestra have surpassed anything else. What is it 52 musos up there? so good I just have to keep watching it over and over. Speaking from a drummers point of view too Martijn Vink nailed it, under what must have been incredible pressure he came up with the goods and more. No passengers here what an experience it must've been to have been in that audience.

Amazing arrangement. In the other hand, lol, it seems that you need a whole symphonic ensemble to reproduce and maybe slightly embellise the work that Mays usually makes alone by himself, this says quite something about the musicianship of Lyle
