After Closing 4000+ Sales, I Discovered a New Method to Close Deals Faster

How I got here…

21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.

Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).

To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.

You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.

Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.

Never quit,

Alex

*FULL DISCLOSURE*
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

You never stop learning in sales. After 2 decades in the field you still learn something every day. Thank you Alex.

As a client/customer, I’m not buying anything from anyone who refuses to answer a straight question. We have politicians for that. Sales should be facilitated, not made.

I’ve done this 100s of times naturally. Thank you for drawing it out because now I will do it forever, intentionally.

This really does apply to ANY question someone has. This isn’t just for sales, normal conversations could benefit from this. Both parties understanding what they are talking about is pivotal to meaningful conversation

“Seek to understand, not to win” is the most important part in philosophy as well.

I am on the customer end of this often… I work with construction contractors… and I walk away from lots of contractors due to how they listen/talk to me. The “pitfalls” presented here are dealbreakers.

Really useful info on how to treat/connect customers during negotiations.

Good information, as the top sales person who sold the same as the all the sales staff combined, I would change one thing in this presentation. The buyer has fears and many of those fears they will not tell you. It is the job of the sales person to know all of the objections and not need to ask the prospect. For example you have to tell the prospect who is resisting things like, "you might be wondering, if you give me your credicard number, how do you know you will get anything in the mail.... and answer the question and others that might be in their minds. HINT: people are more afraid of losing something then the desire to gain something. Eleminat the fears and dont expect them to tell you.

I lost so many sales in the past, but thanks to your video, I now see things clearly. It’s not that I didn’t already know most of what you said—maybe not perfectly, but my instincts always told me the same thing. However, I refused to act on it.

I’m tired of playing the game. I don’t want to dance around the issues, wrestle with people, or give them the "right" when they’re wrong. I don’t care enough to bother. Clearly, I don’t prioritize money because I’d rather hold on to my pride than compromise and sell to someone by letting them think they’re right, even when they’re not.

It’s probably my pride. I don’t know for sure. I didn’t come to this world to simply go with the flow, especially when it’s clear the flow is heading in the wrong direction regarding Western society. I’m here to tell people the truth, even if it’s not appreciated and doesn’t get approval anywhere.

Watching your video was a pleasure because now I’m even more certain about what I should do when I decide to prioritize money. I realize I didn’t do anything wrong—I just didn’t want to go along with it before.

Now, I have a clear decision to make in the future. Thank you very much for the video.

Learned this tech from one of my best managers ever. Acknowledge, bridge, clarify/close.

My favorite thing to say was “just curious” and then ask the clarifying question

this is legit good sales advice here. I'm so glad Alex went back to solid tactical business videos, not goofing around in a chef hat. This stuff is just so much more valuable.

A qualification process of telling customers we only work with the best and we need to make sure you are a good fit for what we provide positions. The whole conversation for this and makes customers want to earn your business.

So what you are saying is acknowledge, associate, and ask to overcome objectives. That's absolutely brilliant Alex. I think this is the "creme de la creme" sales technique that only the best can understand. And not just for sales, but communication in general. Thanks for the vid!

As someone who has managed a ton of sales people (many tons… actually) over the years, I love what you are teaching here it literally defines some of the things I have done and struggled sometimes to teach. Thank you!
