Don't you hate it when you change your battery, or disconnect your 12v car battery to do some car repairs, only to lose all your settings? Well, here is a battery saver for you to use. This is one that uses a 9v battery that hooks up to your 12v power outlet or cigarette lighter adapter. But does it work? Check out the video now!

Please note, the 12 volt accessory plug in this car is 'always hot', meaning it's on, even if the key is not in the Ignition.

Also, as stated in this video, it did not work in this test. That's not to say it will not work at all, but there is inconsistencies with the 9v memory saver, and you should verify your accessory plug function before purchasing this device. Devices like this have worked for some people, so buy at your own discretion.

If you would like to purchase this adapter, you can find one like it here

I used a very similar memory saver that has a green light. On my older car the cigarette lighter does not work when key is in the off position but it does work when the key is in the ACC accessories position. So I connected up the memory saver with a brand new 9V lithium battery & plugged it into the outlet with key in ACC position & started changing the battery. While I was changing the battery I covered the positive battery lead with a plastic bag to avoid shorting it out. Anyway, it worked perfectly all the radio settings were retained. And the car seems to run perfectly fine. However, I did the changeover in about 10 minutes. However, the memory saver instructions said to have the ignition key in the off position which I suspect would have caused it to do nothing! (the cigarette lighter does not work when key is set to off)

The one I have will either hook up to a 9V battery or it has alligator clips to hook to another 12V battery. It worked with previous cars but haven't tried it with the 05 Grand Prix yet. I do know that the 12V power outlets stays live with the key off. Left the dash cam plugged in for about 3 weeks with the car not running and killed the brand new battery. LOL Not a good way to learn but none the less, lesson learned.
Take care, have an awesome weekend and Happy Easter

Just decided I'm going to hook mine to a spare car battery, disconnect the battery in the car and leave it over night. I'll let you know what happens.

These 9v savers work great. The red light indicator means the 9v battery isn't strong enough to hold voltage.

Did you have the ignition switched to Accessories?

What about where you read that some cars require the acc to be set to on position???

Some Cars the 12v Plug does not work when the key is off, some 12v Plugs are on a timer, so when you turn off the ignition you only have say 30 Minutes and then the Plug shuts off.... You have to experiment to see which one you have.

My question, and you're probably going to want to do a follow up after i point this out....
Does your cigarette lighter outlet work, when your car is turned off, no key in the ignition? If it doesn't then nothing that you plug into the cigarette lighter is going to maintain voltage because the circuits not complete. Find the fuse for your plug and run it too a known always hot fuse plug. They sell fusible links at the auto parts store and you can just put a spade and on each one and jump the hot to the circuit.
Try it again because I am 99.9% sure that those cars do not come with an accessory Hot all the time.

A little off topic but do you by chance have a video that shows where the PCV valve is on the 05 Grand Prix Base 3.8?? I've been looking all day. lol

I believe you opened your car door after you disconnected the battery that may have drained your 9 volt battery instantly.

You did it wrong, when you turned off the ignition you turned off the power from the 9v battery going back through the car electrical system. You should have left the key in the ignition turned to accessory, turn off the radio, dome light or anything else running in a accessory mode.

After the hour reconnect the battery, the key should still be in the car in accessory mode, unplug the 9v, then check everything.

Dude, the reason for the memory save isn’t for the radio, it’s for idle information and fuel ratio for the computer. Not to mention, I think the light was red when you unhooked the battery, I’ll go back and look. You definitely didn’t use this thing correctly nor did you use the correct port, they work great. As long as you have an alkaline battery, it’ll retain computer function for 24 hours. Might want to edit this video and use the correct process. Not trying to be rude, just saying, it’s a decent product.

I think your supposed to leave ignition in ACC mode on your car, probably where you went wrong👍

I think you have to put the position ignition key on when you put into the socket lighter to connected 9v battery to the car system memory. Because there is a cut of when your ignition key position off. It is the same as you don't put anything into the socket lighter. 9v battery should be enough to keep the memory. 🙏😊 just my opinion, sorry if I am wrong 🙏😊 God bless

True cigarette lighter port will only be powered up with ignition key in aux position or beyond. This is a safety thing. You want kids playing with live cigarette lighters. So to make this device work ignition key would need to be in place. Removing battery with ignition on is never a good idea.
If I had this device I would cut off the business end of it and replace it with 2 alligator clips. Next I would connect them directly to battery clamps.

Bro, when you turn the key off, the cigarettes or output power will be disconnected, try hooking 9VDC at battery terminals

Try it within 20 minutes and it will work, more than 30 minutes probably not.
